The axnet_cs driver can support the AMB8110 PC Card, so add the id for it.
In the old pcmcia-cs config file, this card is listed with the comment "not
specific enough". The last entry in the axnet_ids has the same comment.
They are disabled, and for good reason as it was originally identified by
the MANFID, and that is shared with several cards that use both the
pcnet_cs driver and axnet_cs driver. I tried my AMB8110 with pcnet_cs, and
found that it works fine, and I cannot find a reason for either, except
that the old config file recommended axnet_cs.

A recent patch attempted to enable more efficient memory usage by using
only 2kB descriptors for jumbo frames. The method used to implement this
has since been commented upon as "illegal" and in recent kernels even
causes a BUG when receiving ip fragments while using jumbo frames.
This patch simply goes back to the way things were. We expect some
complaints due to order 3 allocations failing to come back due to this
change.

Remove Message Signaled Interrupt support (for 2.6.16).
MSI is inherently edge-triggered and that is incompatiable (without more
work) with NAPI.
In future, will replace with smarter lockless-IRQ handling like
tg3.c

These messages end up polluting logs when things like NetworkManager or
wpa_supplicant are controlling the driver. They aren't really that
useful, and no other drivers output messages like this when the user
fiddles with encryption keys. Users can use iwconfig and other
wireless-tools methods to determine and change the current transmit key
if they wish to do so manually. Therefore, remove the messages.

velocity_rx_refill() only replenishes the descriptor entries which
belong to the CPU. It works great in the Rx path but the driver must
ensure that all the descriptors are freed before velocity_rx_refill()
is used in velocity_change_mtu(). The patch resets the Rx descriptors
in velocity_free_rd_ring().

Some Sun parts don't have PCI_VENDOR_ID_SUN in the subsystem
vendor ID. So add another fallback test, which is the name
of the OBP firmware device tree node. If it's a Sun part we'll
get "network", else it will be named "ethernet".

Fix two bugs in the WoL implementation of sis900. The first causes

drivers/net/tlan.c compiles with CONFIG_PCI=n only with a warning and
due to the dead code elimination of gcc.
Additionally, this fixes the only compile error I found with
CONFIG_PCI=n and the gcc -Werror-implicit-function-declaration
flag on i386.

Fix a race in the receive NAPI, irq handling. The interrupt clear and the

rtl8169_hw_start() requires that the descriptor ring indexes be
set to zero. Let a deferred invocation of rtl8169_reset_task()
handle it. Enabling a few power management bits will not hurt
either.
suspend/resume is issued with irq on: the spinlock do not need
to save the irq flag.

Need to force a transmit coalesce timer restart after processing
transmit packets. Otherwise, can get transmit status after last
update and chip doesn't send the next one.
Can go with the chip defaults for coalescing timers, except for
Tx timer which needs to be bigger.

This patch fixes 2 bugs in the USB-IrDA code.
The first one is a buffer overrun in the RX path. We are now using
IRDA_SKB_MAX_MTU when initializing the Rx URB.
The second one is a potential stack recursion when unplugging the USB
dongle. It seems that first we get the Rx URB with a generic error
code, and after a while the Rx URB comes again with a "disconnect"
error code. Since we are resubmitting the Rx URB immediately after
receiving the first error one, we might enter an endless loop.
When getting an error Rx URB, the patch defers the Rx URB resubmitting
so that it gives us a chance to catch the disconnect one, in case the
dongle has juts been unplugged.
Tested against 2.6.16-rc2.

Users report problems w/ auto-negotiation disabled and the link set
to 100/Half or 10/Half. Problems range from poor performance to no
link at all.
The current sky2 code does not set things properly on link up if
autonegotiation is disabled. Plus it does not contemplate a 10Mbit
setting at all. This patch corrects that.

The previous patch that added ENCODEEXT and AUTH support to the airo
driver contained a slight error which would cause setting the TX
key index ignore a valid key-set request at the same time. This patch
allows any combination of setting the TX key index and setting an
encryption key.

Do not avoid APs with wpa_ie or rsn_ie if !ieee->wpa_enabled
There are broken APs out there that fill these elements even
though encryption is disnabled. Also, this breaks legit WEP to
WPA migration scenarious.
We add a checking to prohibite WPA configured STA trying to
associate with non-WPA supported APs.

This patch makes the IPW2100 and IPW2200 options available in

This patch fixes a number of bugs in the authentication process:
1) When falling back to Shared Key authentication mode from Open System,
a missing 'return' would cause the auth request to be sent, but would
drop the card into Management Error state. When falling back, the
driver should also indicate that it is switching to Shared Key mode by
setting exclude_unencrypted.
2) Initial authentication modes were apparently wrong in some cases,
causing the driver to attempt Shared Key authentication mode when in
fact the access point didn't support that mode or even had WEP disabled.
The driver should set the correct initial authentication mode based on
wep_is_on and exclude_unencrypted.
3) Authentication response packets from the access point in Open System
mode were getting ignored because the driver was expecting the sequence
number of a Shared Key mode response. The patch separates the OS and SK
mode handling to provide the correct behavior.

Make the whole netdevices menu depend on NET, rather than having an empty
submenu when networking is disabled.
Indeed, almost the whole body of the menu was surrounded by if NETDEVICES,
and what was outside depended on NETCONSOLE which is inside the menu.

Using the sky2 driver with bonding can result in oopses related to
reinitializing the PHY when the MAC address is changed (which bonding
is wont to do). This patch changes sky2_set_mac_address to take less
drastic measures.

There were bugs in mmconfig access to PCI space, up to and
include 2.6.16-rc1. These prevented the sky2 driver from being
able to clear PCI express errors.
This patch makes the driver check (during probe), for errors
in PCI config access and fail.

sis900 defines 'cfgpmcsr' as an I/O space register, but CFGPMCSR is

e100 seems to have had a long standing bug where e100_init_hw was being
called when it should not have been. This caused a panic due to recent
changes that rely on correct set up in the driver, and more robust error
paths.

When we pull the PPP protocol off the skb, we forgot to update the
hardware RX checksum. This may lead to messages such as
dsl0: hw csum failure.
Similarly, we need to clear the hardware checksum flag when we use
the existing packet to store the decompressed result.

Make sure tg3_reset_task() is flushed in the close and suspend paths
as noted by Jeff Garzik.
In the close path, calling flush_scheduled_work() may cause deadlock
if linkwatch_event() is on the workqueue. linkwatch_event() will try
to get the rtnl_lock() which is already held by tg3_close(). So
instead, we set a flag in tg3_reset_task() and tg3_close() polls
the flag until it is cleared.

This patch allows ipw2100 driver to advertise the WPA-related encryption
options that it does really support. It's necessary to work correctly

This patch adds IWENCODEEXT and IWAUTH support to the airo driver for
WEP and unencrypted operation. No WPA though. It allows the driver to
operate more willingly with wpa_supplicant and NetworkManager.

Checking the stack usage of my kernel, showed that ipw2200 had a few bad
offenders. This is on i386 32-bit:

The reason is the host_cmd structure is large (500 bytes). All other
functions currently using ipw_send_cmd() suffer from the same problem.
This patch introduces ipw_send_cmd_simple() for commands with no data
transfer, and ipw_send_cmd_pdu() for commands with a data payload and
makes the payload a pointer to the buffer passed in from the caller.
As an added bonus, the diffstat looks like this:

I can't really help with why restarts happen, but the following patch
greatly increases the likelihood that a firmware reload will succeed
afterward on my thinkpad. It addresses two issues. First, sysfs module
loading and hotplug are asynchronous, and as such file operations on the
"loading" and "data" files are racy when you load 2 firmwares in quick
succession. Second, the timeout for DMAing the firmware needs to scale
with the size of the firmware being loaded. That is, the watchdog needs
to be on throughput, not on time alone.
I no longer get the firmware load errors, though this is at best a hacky
workaround for a racy interface. (Obviously, this does nothing to address
the fatal errors in firmware which cause reloads; it just causes the
initial loading and the reloads to work more often.)

I've added a new module param "bt_coexist" which defaults to OFF.
This does not seem to fix the firmware restarts, but it does do "the
right thing" and disables something that we were enabling by default:
signaling the Bluetooth h/w which channel we're on (whether or not the
BT h/w was out there).

The indirect SRAM/register 8/16-bit write routines are broken for
non-dword-aligned destination addresses.
Fortunately, these routines are, so far, not used for non-dword-aligned
destinations, but here's a patch that fixes them, anyway.
The attached patch also adds comments for all direct/indirect I/O routine
variations.

CRYPTO is a helper variable, and to make it easier for users, it should
therefore select'ed and not be listed in the dependencies.
drivers/net/wireless/airo.c requires CONFIG_CRYPTO for compilations.
Therefore, AIRO_CS also has to CRYPTO.
Additionally, this patch removes the #ifdef's for the non-compiling
CRYPTO=n case from drivers/net/wireless/airo.c.

The ipw2100 driver misunderstood the parameter of txpower.
Tx Power off means turn off the radio, but the driver interpret it as
"can't set txpower". So when getting the txpower, it sets disabled=1 to
the iwconifg tool in managed mode. And the tool will display "Tx Power off"
when disabled=1.
Now, in managed mode, iwconfig will not show "TX Power" if the radio is not
switched off. It will only display "Tx Power off" only if the radio is killed.

The MII registers read/write function blindly busy waits for an
amount of 1000 us (1 ms), then up to 200 ms. These functions are
called from irq disabled context. Depending on the clock management,
it triggers lost ticks events. Since the value is way above the
standard delay required for mii register access, it strangely looks
like a bandaid against posted writes.

We shouldn't expose the hardware register contents in platform_data.
The only things we allow the user to configure are autoneg, speed, and
duplex. Add specific platform_data fields for these values and remove
the registers configs.

Modify link up/down handling to use the functions from the MII
library. Note that I track link state using the MII PHY registers
rather than the mv643xx chip's link state registers because I think
it's cleaner to use the MII library code rather than writing local
driver support code. It is also useful to make the actual MII
registers available to the user with maskable kernel printk messages
so the MII registers are being read anyway

tx_ring_skbs is actually a count of tx descriptors currently in use.
Since there may be multiple descriptors per skb, it is not the
same as the number of skbs in the ring.
Also change rx_ring_skbs to rx_desc_count to be consistent.

LRO feature is supported on Neterion Xframe-I, Xframe-II and
Xframe-Express 10GbE NICs.
Brief description:
The Large Receive Offload(LRO) feature is a stateless offload
that is complementary to TSO feature but on the receive path.
The idea is to combine and collapse(upto 64K maximum) in the
driver, in-sequence TCP packets belonging to the same session.
It is mainly designed to improve 1500 mtu receive performance,
since Jumbo frame performance is already close to 10GbE line
rate. Some performance numbers are attached below.
Implementation details:
1. Handle packet chains from multiple sessions(current default
MAX_LRO_SESSSIONS=32).
2. Examine each packet for eligiblity to aggregate. A packet is
considered eligible if it meets all the below criteria.
a. It is a TCP/IP packet and L2 type is not LLC or SNAP.
b. The packet has no checksum errors(L3 and L4).
c. There are no IP options. The only TCP option supported is timestamps.
d. Search and locate the LRO object corresponding to this
socket and ensure packet is in TCP sequence.
e. It's not a special packet(SYN, FIN, RST, URG, PSH etc. flags are not set).
f. TCP payload is non-zero(It's not a pure ACK).
g. It's not an IP-fragmented packet.
3. If a packet is found eligible, the LRO object is updated with
information such as next sequence number expected, current length
of aggregated packet and so on. If not eligible or max packets
reached, update IP and TCP headers of first packet in the chain
and pass it up to stack.
4. The frag_list in skb structure is used to chain packets into one
large packet.
Kernel changes required: None
Performance results:
Main focus of the initial testing was on 1500 mtu receiver, since this
is a bottleneck not covered by the existing stateless offloads.
There are couple disclaimers about the performance results below:
1. Your mileage will vary!!!! We initially concentrated on couple pci-x
2.0 platforms that are powerful enough to push 10 GbE NIC and do not
have bottlenecks other than cpu%; testing on other platforms is still
in progress. On some lower end systems we are seeing lower gains.
2. Current LRO implementation is still (for the most part) software based,
and therefore performance potential of the feature is far from being realized.
Full hw implementation of LRO is expected in the next version of Xframe ASIC.
Performance delta(with MTU=1500) going from LRO disabled to enabled:
IBM 2-way Xeon (x366) : 3.5 to 7.1 Gbps
2-way Opteron : 4.5 to 6.1 Gbps

There is a problem with fragmented skb in s2io driver version 2.0.9.4
available in 2.6.16-rc1 kernel. The adapter will fail to transmit if
any scatter-gather skb arrives. This patch provides fix for the above
described problem.

On my laptop, the b44 device is created and the carrier state defaults
to ON when created by alloc_etherdev. This means tools like NetworkManager
see the carrier as On and try and bring the device up. The correct thing
to do is mark the carrier as Off when device is created.

Make phy 0 actually be read, as it is not being right now as we have:
int mii_status = mdio_read(dev, phy, MII_BMSR);
int phyx = phy & 0x1f;
When we should have instead:
int phyx = phy & 0x1f;
int mii_status = mdio_read(dev, phyx, MII_BMSR);
so that when phy, in the end of the (phy = 1; phy <= 32...) loop gets
to 32 phyx gets to 0, i.e. we were reading at 32, when the intended
read was for 0.

On my latest laptop, I've had occasional PHY dead on wakeup from
sleep... the PHY would be totally unresponsive even to toggling the hard
reset line until the machine is powered down... Looking closely at the
code, I found some possible issues in the way we setup the MDIO lines
during suspend along with slight divergences from what Darwin does when
resetting it that may explain the problem. That patch change these and
the problem appear to be gone for me at least... I also fixed an mdelay
-> msleep while I was at it to the pmac feature code that is called
when toggling the PHY reset line since sungem doesn't call it in an
atomic context anymore.

Fix TCP/UDP checksum verification. Use status bits in the buffer
descriptor instead of the checksum value to verify rx checksum.
Using the checksum value will be incorrect if the UDP packet has
zero in the UDP checksum field.

that are actively crashing the setup of users which don't really need them
(i.e. HIGHMEM and 3-level pagetables on x86 - nobody needs either,
everybody reports "I'm using it and getting trouble").

drivers/block/Kconfig near "Block layer" submenu.
*) it's useless and doesn't work well to force NETDEVICES on and to disable
the prompt like it's done. Better remove the attempt, and change that to a
simple "default y if UML".
*) drop the warning about "report problems about HPPFS" - it's redundant
anyway, as that's the usual procedure, and HPPFS users are especially
technical (i.e. they know reporting bugs is _good_).

Adds the ability to disability packet split at compile time and use the legacy receive path on PCI express hardware. Made this a CONFIG option and modified the Kconfig, to reflect the new option.

There are a couple of problems in the DMA setup code for skge.
* In the 64 bit case, it doesn't set the consistent mask.
* In the 32 bit case, the error check is backwards!
It likely will only be visible as a bug on 64 bit platforms.

Fix problems with Yukon FE rev 2 chipset. Don't cut and paste bugs in from
sk98lin driver. Change how the ram buffer is divided up, and make the math
clearer. Also, set the thresholds where rx takes precedence. The threshold
values are just guesses at this point, it might be worth tuning them later.

This patch contains two fixes. The first fix is to the tx and rx descriptor rings clean up process. The second fix is to jumbo frames, which cleans up the code logic and removes most of the fifo related limitations on jumbo frames. This is because the driver code now supports splitting a packet across multiple descriptors.

10/100 speeds seem to have some problems reporting false tx timeouts especially at half duplex. Fixed by using a timeout factor to attempt to mitigate the false timeouts.

The driver incorrectly used dma_addr_t to describe
HW structures and consequently broke when that type
was changed in 2.6.15-rc.

request_firmware() is sometimes problematic, especially
in initramfs, reading the firmware from Open Firmware
is much preferrable.
We still try to get the firmware from the file system
first, in order to support old SLOF releases and to allow
updates of the spidernet firmware without reflashing
the system.

This patch removes the NETIF_F_HW_CSUM flag to be able to use other protocols
than IPv4. Hardware checksums for IPv4 should continue to work because
NETIF_F_IP_CSUM is still set. The sanity-check has been enhanced to check
the used protocol and to not access skb->iph for non-ipv4-packets.

This driver has historically held a spin_lock during the entire open
and stop functions and while receiving multiple packets. This is
unecessarily long and holds locks during calls that may sleep.
This patch reduces the size of windows where locks are held.

The Marvell mv643xx ethernet hardware requires that DMA buffers be
aligned to 8-byte boundaries. This patch satisfies this requirement.
Buffers allocated by dev_alloc_skb() only have 4-byte alignment when
slab debugging is enabled.
Also, document that the 2-byte offset to align the IP packets on
receive is a hardware feature and is not tied to NET_IP_ALIGN.

Add nvram lock count so that calls to tg3_nvram_lock()/unlock() can
be nested. Add error checking to all callers of tg3_nvram_lock()
where appropriate. To prevent nvram lock failures after halting the
firmware, it is also necessary to release firmware's nvram lock in
tg3_halt_cpu().

ESSIDs can technically include NULL characters. Drivers should not be
adjusting the length of the ESSID before reporting it in their

Host AP driver has code to support writing firmware to non-volatile
memory, a.k.a. flash. This code has been extensively tested when Host
AP was a standalone driver.
Add a configuration option to the kernel to allow enabling this
functionality. Improve the description of the RAM download option.
Mention cards that require it. Remove obsolete scary comment.

At least some versions of the via-velocity hardware only support
checksumming IPv4 frames in hardware. However, the driver is currently
setting the NETIF_F_HW_CSUM flag, which indicates support for more than
just IPv4. This results in errors when trying to use IPv6 over
via-velocity hardware.

I believe I see the race Michael refers to (tlb_choose_channel
may set head, which tlb_init_slave clears), although I was not able to
reproduce it. I have updated his patch for the current netdev-2.6.git
tree and added a version update. His original comment follows:
Our systems have been crashing during testing of PCI HotPlug
support in the various networking components. We've faulted in
the bonding driver due to a bug in bond_alb.c:tlb_clear_slave()
In that routine, the last modification to the TLB hash table is
made without protection of the lock, allowing a race that can lead
tlb_choose_channel() to select an invalid table element.

This patch allows the Atmel driver to work correctly with wpa_supplicant
and other programs that require some conformance with WEXT-18. It
should not affect current behavior of the driver. The patch does four
things:
1) Implements SIOCSIWENCODEEXT, SIOCGIWENCODEEXT, SIOCSIWAUTH, and
SIOCGIWAUTH calls for unencrypted and WEP operation
2) Accepts zero-filled addresses for SIOCSIWAP, which are legal and
should turn off any previous forced WAP address
3) Sends association and de-association events to userspace at most of
the appropriate times
4) Fixes erroneous order of CIPHER_SUITE_WEP_* arguments in one location
which are actually unused anyway

We can now have the gianfar mii platform device have a proper resource for the
IO memory region for its registers. Previously we passed this information
that the platform_data structure because we couldn't handle overlapping memory
regions for platform devices.

airo.c currently has MICSUPPORT enabled, which requires CONFIG_CRYPTO. A
user reported a build failure which is due to the lack of a Kconfig
dependency. See http://bugs.debian.org/344205.
This patch makes Kconfig enforce this dependency.

We have identified two related bugs in the e100 driver.
Both bugs are related to manipulation of the MDI control register.
The first problem is that the Ready bit is being ignored when writing to
the Control register; we noticed this because the Linux bonding driver
would occasionally come to the spurious conclusion that the link was down
when querying Link State. It turned out that by failing to wait for a
previous command to complete it was selecting what was essentially a random
register in the MDI register set. When we added code that waits for the
Ready bit (as shown in the patch file below) all such problems ceased.
The second problem is that, although access to the MDI registers involves
multiple steps which must not be intermixed, nothing was defending against
two or more threads attempting simultaneous access. The most obvious
situation where such interference could occur involves the watchdog versus
ioctl paths, but there are probably others, so we recommend the locking
shown in our patch file.

There's an ifdef in cs89x0.c that seems to have been the wrong way round
since it was merged (and noone seems to have noticed) -- the IXDP2x01
doesn't support ISA-style DMA, but when building for IXDP2x01, cs89x0's
ALLOW_DMA is set to 1, and when building for another platform, ALLOW_DMA is
set to 0.

The API and code have been through various bits of initial review by
serial driver people but they definitely need to live somewhere for a
while so the unconverted drivers can get knocked into shape, existing
drivers that have been updated can be better tuned and bugs whacked out.
This replaces the tty flip buffers with kmalloc objects in rings. In the
normal situation for an IRQ driven serial port at typical speeds the
behaviour is pretty much the same, two buffers end up allocated and the
kernel cycles between them as before.
When there are delays or at high speed we now behave far better as the
buffer pool can grow a bit rather than lose characters. This also means
that we can operate at higher speeds reliably.
For drivers that receive characters in blocks (DMA based, USB and
especially virtualisation) the layer allows a lot of driver specific
code that works around the tty layer with private secondary queues to be
removed. The IBM folks need this sort of layer, the smart serial port
people do, the virtualisers do (because a virtualised tty typically
operates at infinite speed rather than emulating 9600 baud).
Finally many drivers had invalid and unsafe attempts to avoid buffer
overflows by directly invoking tty methods extracted out of the innards
of work queue structs. These are no longer needed and all go away. That
fixes various random hangs with serial ports on overflow.
The other change in here is to optimise the receive_room path that is
used by some callers. It turns out that only one ldisc uses receive room
except asa constant and it updates it far far less than the value is
read. We thus make it a variable not a function call.
I expect the code to contain bugs due to the size alone but I'll be
watching and squashing them and feeding out new patches as it goes.
Because the buffers now dynamically expand you should only run out of
buffering when the kernel runs out of memory for real. That means a lot of
the horrible hacks high performance drivers used to do just aren't needed any
more.
Description:
tty_insert_flip_char is an old API and continues to work as before, as does
tty_flip_buffer_push() [this is why many drivers dont need modification]. It
does now also return the number of chars inserted
There are also
tty_buffer_request_room(tty, len)
which asks for a buffer block of the length requested and returns the space
found. This improves efficiency with hardware that knows how much to
transfer.
and tty_insert_flip_string_flags(tty, str, flags, len)
to insert a string of characters and flags
For a smart interface the usual code is
len = tty_request_buffer_room(tty, amount_hardware_says);

At the moment tty buffers are attached directly to the tty. This is causing a
lot of the problems related to tty layer locking, also problems at high speed
and also with bursty data (such as occurs in virtualised environments)
I'm working on ripping out the flip buffers and replacing them with a pool of
dynamically allocated buffers. This allows both for old style "byte I/O"
devices and also helps virtualisation and smart devices where large blocks of
data suddenely materialise and need storing.
So far so good. Lots of drivers reference tty->flip.*. Several of them also
call directly and unsafely into function pointers it provides. This will all
break. Most drivers can use tty_insert_flip_char which can be kept as an API
but others need more.
At the moment I've added the following interfaces, if people think more will
be needed now is a good time to say
int tty_buffer_request_room(tty, size)
Try and ensure at least size bytes are available, returns actual room (may be
zero). At the moment it just uses the flipbuf space but that will change.
Repeated calls without characters being added are not cumulative. (ie if you
call it with 1, 1, 1, and then 4 you'll have four characters of space. The
other functions will also try and grow buffers in future but this will be a
more efficient way when you know block sizes.
int tty_insert_flip_char(tty, ch, flag)
As before insert a character if there is room. Now returns 1 for success, 0
for failure.
int tty_insert_flip_string(tty, str, len)
Insert a block of non error characters. Returns the number inserted.
int tty_prepare_flip_string(tty, strptr, len)
Adjust the buffer to allow len characters to be added. Returns a buffer
pointer in strptr and the length available. This allows for hardware that
needs to use functions like insl or mencpy_fromio.

A new device to do intermidiate functional block in a system shared
manner. To use the new functionality, you need to turn on
qos/classifier actions.
The new functionality can be grouped as:
1) qdiscs/policies that are per device as opposed to system wide. ifb
allows for a device which can be redirected to thus providing an
impression of sharing.
2) Allows for queueing incoming traffic for shaping instead of
dropping.
Packets are redirected to this device using tc/action mirred redirect
construct. If they are sent to it by plain routing instead then they
will merely be dropped and the stats would indicate that.

This contains a bug fix for large buffers. Originally, if a tx buffer to
be sent was larger then the maximum size of the tx descriptor, it would
overwrite other control bits. In this patch, the buffer is split over
multiple descriptors. Also, the fragments are now setup in forward order.

Disable TX status deferral (EMACx_MR[MWSW=001]) in half-duplex mode.
I have two reports when EMAC stops transmitting when connected to a
hub. TX ring debug printouts show complete mess when this happens,
probably hardware collision handling doesn't work quite well in this
mode.
This is relevant only for SoCs with EMAC4 core (440GX, 440SP, 440SPe).
Tested on 440GX.

Sk98lin 64bit memory handling is wrong. It doesn't set the
highdma flag; i.e. the kernel always does bounce buffers.
It doesn't fallback to 32 bit mask if it can't get 64 bit mask.

Sk98lin driver has a routine marked __init that is called from
the probe code. If using pci hotplug, this could be called after
the initialization so it needs to be marked __devinit.
So if you hot added a sk98lin board, the kernel would crash.
I don't have hot plug hardware to actually try this feat.
Also, there are two routines, only called from SkGeBoardInit that can
be marked __devinit.

using the equivalent attribute on the struct instead of on each of the
structure or union members.
GCC Manual:
"Specifying Attributes of Types

required. When attached to an enum definition, it indicates that the
smallest integral type should be used.

Some ARM platforms have the ability to program the interrupt controller to
detect various interrupt edges and/or levels. For some platforms, this is
critical to setup correctly, particularly those which the setting is dependent
on the device.
Currently, ARM drivers do (eg) the following:
err = request_irq(irq, ...);
set_irq_type(irq, IRQT_RISING);
However, if the interrupt has previously been programmed to be level sensitive
(for whatever reason) then this will cause an interrupt storm.
Hence, if we combine set_irq_type() with request_irq(), we can then safely set
the type prior to unmasking the interrupt. The unfortunate problem is that in
order to support this, these flags need to be visible outside of the ARM
architecture - drivers such as smc91x need these flags and they're
cross-architecture.
Finally, the SA_TRIGGER_* flag passed to request_irq() should reflect the
property that the device would like. The IRQ controller code should do its

PNX010X support for CS89x0 should be conditional on NET_PCI, as it is an 'on
board controller' and NET_PCI includes that category of NICs. Since
ARCH_PNX0105 was recently changed to ARCH_PNX010X, incorporate that change as
well while we're at it.

readword() and writeword() take a 'struct net_device *' and deref its
->base_addr member. Make them take the base_addr directly instead, so
that we can switch the other occurences of inw/outw in the file over

EPXA10DB seems to be uncared for:
- the "PLD" code has never been merged
- no one has reported that this platform has been broken since
at least 2.6.10
- interest seems to have dried up around March 2003.
Therefore, remove EPXA10DB support.

Unify the EVENT_CARD_INSERTION and "attach" callbacks to one unified
probe() callback. As all in-kernel drivers are changed to this new
callback, there will be no temporary backwards-compatibility. Inside a
probe() function, each driver _must_ set struct pcmcia_device
*p_dev->instance and instance->handle correctly.
With these patches, the basic driver interface for 16-bit PCMCIA drivers
now has the classic four callbacks known also from other buses:

Move the suspend and resume methods out of the event handler, and into
special functions. Also use these functions for pre- and post-reset, as
almost all drivers already do, and the remaining ones can easily be
converted.

Resubmitting after recommendation to use GET_REG32_1() instead of
GET_REG32_LOOP(..., 1). Retested. Problem remains fixed.
Prevent tg3_get_regs() from reading reserved and undocumented registers
at RX_CPU_BASE and TX_CPU_BASE offsets which caused hostile behavior
on PCIe platforms.

Two critical bugs were found in forcedeth 0.47:
- TSO doesn't work.
- pci_map_single() for the rx buffers is called with size==0. This bug
is critical, it causes random memory corruptions on systems with an
iommu.
Below is a minimal fix for both bugs, for 2.6.15.
TSO will be fixed properly in the next version. Tested on x86-64.

I had to update this patch because more warnings have just appeared.
You cannot print a u64 with %l or %ll. You do not know what type the
architecture is using. It must be cast to a type which matches the printf
control string - unsigned long long.
The patch also fixes some overly-long strings. Please try to keep the code
looking neat in an 80-col window.

Changing the MTU size causes the receiver to have to reallocate buffers.
If this allocation fails, then we need to return an error, and take
the device offline. It can then be brought back up or reconfigured
for a smaller MTU.

The Chelsio driver does not return the correct values from
the transmit routine. It works because the values don't conflict,
but it is using the wrong defines. And -ENOMEM is not a legal return
value.
Since t1_sge_tx is only called in one place, making it static
allows compiler to be potentially inline it.

The tw32_f() function (register write with immediate read flush) can
hang when used on some registers to switch clock frequencies and
power. A new tw32_wait_f() is added for such registers with the
delay before the read and after the read.

Locate the pdev_peer for dual port 5714 NIC devices in addition to
5704 devices. The name is also changed to tg3_find_peer() from
tg3_find_5704_peer(). It is also necessary to call netdev_priv() to

Fix the following bugs in tg3_set_power_state():
1. Both WOL and ASF flags require switching to aux power.
2. Add a missing handshake with firmware to enable WOL.
3. Turn off the PHY if both WOL and ASF are disabled.
4. Add nvram arbitration before halting the firmware.
5. Fix tg3_setup_copper_phy() to switch to 100Mbps when
changing to low power state.

If the dual-port 5704 is configured as a single-port device with
only one PCI function, it would trigger a BUG() condition in
tg3_find_5704_peer(). This fixes the problem by returning its
own pdev if the peer cannot be found.

Fix tg3_suspend() and tg3_resume() by clearing and setting the
TG3_FLAG_INIT_COMPLETE flag when appropriate. tg3_set_power_state()
looks at TG3_FLAG_INIT_COMPLETE on the peer device to determine
when to appropriately switch to aux power.

The CSR contains garbage after a coldboot on RS/6000.
One some systems (like my 44p 270) the MAC address is all FF,
on others (like my B50) it is ff:ff:ff:fd:ff:6b.
It can eventually be fixed by loading pcnet32, set the interface
into the UP state, rmmod pcnet32 and load it again. But this worked
only on the 270.
Only netbooting after a cold start provides the correct MAC address
via prom and CSR. This makes it very unreliable.
I dont know why the MAC is stored in two different places. Remove
the special case for powerpc, which was added in early 2.4 development.

this patch changes causes the airo driver to not reset the card when a
temporary WEP key is set, when the IW_ENCODE_TEMP flag is used. This is
needed for xsupplicant as 802.1x, LEAP, etc. change WEP keys frequently
after authentication and resetting the card causes infinite
reauthentication.
Javier and Jean agree with the patch, Javier suggested I send this to
you, can you apply this?

without this patch after an rmmod, modprobe the card won't work anymore
until the next reboot.
This patch seem safe to apply for all cards as the bsd driver already do
that.
I had to add a timeout because strange things happen (issuecommand will
fail) if the card is already reseted (after a reboot).
PS : it seems there are missing reset when leaving monitor mode...

If using UDP over VLAN, with the skge driver there is a possibility
of generating an incorrect checksum. This is a unlikely occurrence
because it is only an issue on Yukon revision 0, and that revision
doesn't seem to exist on any current hardware (probably early prototype).

When we reset the pm3386, it loses its internally stored MAC addresses
that were programmed into it by the bootloader (and are used by the
hardware for the generation of PAUSE frames.) Add a hook to allow
setting these addresses so that we can program them back by hand.

This patch fixes graceful stop timeout handling in PPC4xx EMAC driver.
Currently, when we stop TX/RX channels we just do some number of loops
without relying on actual spent time. This has finally bitten me on
one of our systems (heavy network traffic during start up, RX channel
is stopped several times to configure multicast list).
Graceful channel stop can take up to 1 frame time, so I've added
device specific timeout counter which depends on current link speed
and calls to udelay() to really wait required amount of time before
giving up.

Remove code from sk98lin that does it's own checksum validation.
This code is incorrect when dealing with nested protocols like

Parse outgoing packets in e1000_transfer_dhcp_info as raw packet even if
protocol bits are set. pump, for instance causes kernel panic on some
systems, if parsed via udp header.

This patch fixes a problem plaguing Dell notebooks with built-in b44
ethernet: The driver refuses to transmit packets of any kind until after
the first 5-second tx_timeout occurs. This bug causes DHCP negotiation to
fail (timeout) during installation of Ubuntu Linux.

In e1000_free_desc_rings, zero-out pointers after the memory they
point to is freed. The test rings are static and get re-used, and
failures during subsequent test setups can cause e1000_free_desc_rings
to get called with dirty pointers. Dirty pointers can cause oopses
or crashes...

In e1000_loopback_test, make sure to call e1000_free_desc_rings if

Wireless extensions moved the get_wireless_stats handler from being
in net_device into wireless_handler.
A prior instance of this patch resolved the issue for the ipw2200.

The way the hardware and firmware work is that there is one shared RX
queue and IRQ for a number of different network interfaces. Due to this,
we would like to process received packets for every interface in the same
NAPI poll handler, so we need a pseudo-device to schedule polling on.
What the driver currently does is that it always schedules polling for
the first network interface in the list, and processes packets for every
interface in the poll handler for that first interface -- however, this
scheme breaks down if the first network interface happens to not be up,
since netif_rx_schedule_prep() checks netif_running().
sky2 apparently has the same issue, and Stephen Hemminger suggested a
way to work around this: create a variant of netif_rx_schedule_prep()
that does not check netif_running(). I implemented this locally and
called it netif_rx_schedule_prep_notup(), and it seems to work well,
but it's something that probably not everyone would be happy with.
The ixp2000 is an ARM CPU with a high-speed network interface in the
CPU itself (full duplex 4Gb/s or 10Gb/s depending on the IXP model.)
The CPU package also contains 8 or 16 (again depending on the IXP
model) 'microengines', which are somewhat primitive but very fast
and efficient processor cores which can be used to offload various
things from the main CPU.
This driver makes the high-speed network interface in the CPU visible
and usable as a regular linux network device. Currently, it only
supports the Radisys ENP2611 IXP board, but adding support for other
board types should be fairly easy.

hermas_bap_pread, hermes_bap_pwrite, and hermes_bap_pwrite_pad all have a parameter "len" that is declared unsigned,
but checked for a value less than zero. Auditing the callers, it is possible for len to be passed a negative value, so len should be an int.

For the four versions of hardware that we (currently) support microcode
download on, the default configuration of our receive interrupt mitigation
microcode was too aggressive, and caused unnecessary delays when pinging,
and low(er) throughput on single connection latency sensitive performance
tests.
This code adds microcode support, and sets the defaults to more reasonable
settings. It also explains the functionality in the code in more detail.
Compile and load tested, shows expected behavior for slight delay of ping
packets (1-2ms) when ucode is loaded, and decent interrupt moderation for
small packets, while maintaining good throughput.

The smc91x driver relies upon register bank 2 being selected whenever
the interrupt handler is called. This isn't always so, especially if
we have a link change event during PHY configuration.
This results in register bank 0 being selected when the interrupt
handler is called, causing the wrong registers to be read for the
IRQ mask and status. In turn, this causes us to spin with a
permanently asserted IRQ.
The patch ensures that smc_phy_configure always exits with register
bank 2 selected.

Not only SMC_ACK_INT(IM_TX_EMPTY_INT) in in smc_hardware_send_pkt)
appears to be unnecessary (tested with an SMC91C94 and SMC91C111), but
it seems to trigger spurious interrupts on some machines as well.
Removed.
While at it, let's log any remaining spurious interrupts if any (and
clean usage of the max IRQ loop count value).

This fixes a slab corruption issue in the ipw2200 driver: it essentially
multiplied the error log number _twice_ by the size of the error element
entry (once explicitly in the code, and once implicitly as part of the
regular pointer arithmetic).

The function ipw_request_direct_scan() should bail out when the device
is down. This fixes a lockup caused by wpa_supplicant triggering
ipw_request_direct_scan() while the driver was in a middle of a reset
due to firmware errors.

As we are currently unable to fix the problem with carrier and protocol
state signaling in net core I've to disable netif_carrier_off()
calls used by WAN protocol drivers. The attached patch should make
them working again.
The remaining netif_carrier_*() calls in hdlc_fr.c are fine as they
don't touch the physical device.

Enablement patch for the new PowerBooks (late 2005 edition).
This enables the ATA controller, Gigabit ethernet and basic AGP setup.
Bluetooth works out-of-the box after running hid2hci.
Still remaining is to get the touchpad to work, the simple change of just
adding the new USB ids isn't enough.

This large patch adds sysfs functionality to the channel bonding module.
Bonds can be added, removed, and reconfigured at runtime without having
to reload the module. Multiple bonds with different configurations are
easily configured, and ifenslave is no longer required to configure bonds.

To ensure that phy_mask and any future elements of the mii_bus
structure are initialized use kzalloc() instead of kmalloc().
This fixes an issue in which phy_mask was not being initialized
and we would skip random phy addresses when scanning.

The rtl8139 thread is triggered only on rare 8139 hardware, the race
itself is unlikely, and the impact of racing is low. We don't care
enough to create a more-complex race-free solution.
Rather, if the trylock fails, we now simply poll twice a second until
we do get the lock.
Due to the recent update of the platform code, some platform device
drivers fail to compile. This fix is for fs_enet, adding #include of a
new header, to which a number of platform stuff has been relocated.

This patch removes almost all inclusions of linux/version.h. The 3
#defines are unused in most of the touched files.
A few drivers use the simple KERNEL_VERSION(a,b,c) macro, which is
unfortunatly in linux/version.h.
There are also lots of #ifdef for long obsolete kernels, this was not
touched. In a few places, the linux/version.h include was move to where
the LINUX_VERSION_CODE was used.

The patch below implements the Microsoft Point-to-Point Encryption method
as a PPP compressor/decompressor. This is necessary for Linux clients and
servers to interoperate with Microsoft Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol
(PPTP) servers (either Microsoft PPTP servers or the poptop project) which
use MPPE to encrypt data when creating a VPN.
This patch differs from the kernel_ppp_mppe DKMS pacakge at
pptpclient.sourceforge.net by utilizing the kernel crypto routines rather
than providing its own SHA1 and arcfour implementations.
Minor changes to ppp_generic.c try to prevent a link from disabling
compression (in our case, the encryption) after it has started using
compression (encryption).

This patch kills include/linux/eeprom.h .
Rationale:
- it was only used by one single driver
- even this driver didn't do anything useful with it
- most of this file are non-inline and non-static functions (sic)
This removes include/linux/eeprom.h and cleans drivers/net/ns83820.c up.
If you think eeprom.h should be used more extensively, please consider:
- the code has to be moved from the header file to a .c file
- the currently empty write function has to be implemented
- ns83820.c or any other driver should actually use it
Noone did any of these during the more than 3 years eeprom.h already
exists...

The current feature computation loses bits that it doesn't know about,
resulting in an inability to add VLANs and possibly other havoc.
Rewrote function to preserve bits it doesn't know about, remove an
unneeded state variable, and simplify the code.

The problem is caused by the patch in bug455 -- Channel change flood
generates fatal error.
The patch set the DISASSOCIATING status bit after sending the command.
The process was scheduled out when waiting for the command to be sent to
the card. The disassociated notification clears the DISASSOCIATING bit
in the tasklet before the process set the bit.
Move the bit setting code before sending the command now.

Because of the frequent channel change, it is possible that when we are
try to associate with channel 1 (authenticated but not associated).
Another channel change comes at this time, then the driver will issue
disassociate command to the firmware which will cause the fatal error.
It seems that the association/disassociation procedure should not be
interrupted.
The patch attached adds test on STATUS_ASSOCIATING | STATUS_DISASSOCIATING
in ipw_send_cmd(), when ensures that commands will not be sent to firmware
when we are in these two status.

You can now specify via the module parameter 'cmdlog' to allocate a
ring buffer for caching host commands sent to the firmware. They can
then be dumped at any time via the sysfs entry 'cmd_log'

captured in memory to be retrieved via sysfs.
If an error has already been captured, subsequent errors will be

If we configure the wep keys after creating the ibss network, the
beacons of this network will not show correctly (it still shows "key
off" in iwlist scan report). This is because we don't update the
beacon info in firmware.

We send SYSTEM_CONFIG command after the TGI_KEY command if hardware
encryption is enabled. It sometimes causes a firmware stall (firmware
doesn't respond to any request) and finally bungs up the Tx send queue.
The solution is to send SYSTEM_CONFIG command in the post association
stage from a workqueue.

Add capability for 3c59x driver to use memory-mapped PCI I/O resources.
This may improve performance for those devices so equipped. This will be
the default behaviour for IS_CYCLONE and IS_TORNADO devices. Additionally,
it can be enabled/disabled individually for up to MAX_UNITS number of
devices via the use_mmio module option or for all units via the
global_use_mmio option. The use_mmio option overrides the global_use_mmio
option for those devices specified.

This patch creates a file airo.h containing prototypes of the global
functions in airo.c used by airo_cs.c .
If you got strange problems with either airo_cs devices or in any other
completely unrelated part of the kernel shortly or long after a airo_cs
device was detected by the kernel, this might have been caused by the
fact that caller and callee disagreed regarding the size of the first
argument to init_airo_card()...

Refine bnx2_poll() logic to write back the most up-to-date status tag
when all work has been processed. This eliminates some occasional
extra interrupts when a older status tag is written even though all
work has been processed.
The idea is to read the status tag just before exiting bnx2_poll() and
then check again for any new work. If no new work is pending, the
status tag written back will not generate any extra interrupt. This
logic is similar to the changes David Miller did to tg3_poll().

Dynamically determine the shared memory location where eeprom
parameters are stored instead of using a fixed location.
Add speed reporting to management firmware. This allows management
firmware to know the current speed without contending for MII
registers.

The device may be in use by a userspace process, which will keep
a reference to the device. If the module is unloaded, the module
text will be freed. Subsequently, when the last reference is
dropped, the release code will be called, which no longer exists.
Use generic platform device allocation/release code in modules.

Adds a phy_mask field to struct mii_bus and uses it. This field
indicates each phy address to be ignored when probing the mdio bus.
This support is needed for the fs_enet and ibm_emac drivers to be
converted to the generic phy layer among other drivers. Many systems
lock up on probing certain phy addresses or probing doesn't return
0xffff when nothing is found at the address. A new driver I'm
working on also makes use of this mask.

Some boards using the 79c976 pcnet32 chip will hang the system if the
ethtool --register-dump is performed with the device operational. The
request to read bcr30 is retried by the PCI device infinitely without
returning data, hanging the system.

This patch is a better fix for Allied Telesyn 2700/2701 FX boards than
the change made in early January this year. It allows the user to
select the speed/duplex via module_param, but if no selection is made,
forces the speed to 100 FD. It fixes both Bugzilla bugs 2669 and 4551.
Tested ia32 and ppc64 by myself, and by the originator of bug 2669.

Display the name eth%d or pci_name() of device which fails to allocate
memory. When changing ring size via ethtool, it also releases the
lock before returning on error. Added comment that the caller of
pcnet32_alloc_ring must call pcnet32_free_ring on error, to avoid leak.
Tested ia32 by forcing allocation errors.

This patch provides dynamic two buffer-mode and 3 buffer-mode options.
Previously 2 buffer-mode was compilation option. Now with this patch applied
one can load driver in 2 buffer-mode with module-load parameter
ie.
#insmod s2io.ko rx_ring_mode=2
This patch also provides 3 buffer-mode which provides header separation
functionality. In 3 buffer-mode skb->data will have L2/L3/L4 headers and
"skb_shinfo(skb)->frag_list->data" will have have L4 payload.
one can load driver in 3 buffer-mode with same above module-load parameter
ie.
#insmod s2io.ko rx_ring_mode=3

fid is declared as a u32 (unsigned int), and then a few lines later, it is checked for a value < 0, which is clearly useless.
In the two locations this function is used, in one it is *explicitly* given a negative number, which would be ignored with the
current definition.

Gone are the days when 8139too was a shining example of how to use
kernel threads. Delayed workqueues are easier, and map precisely to
our task: running code from a kernel thread, after a periodic sleep.
Convert most of the remaining "Using plain integer as NULL pointer" sparse
warnings to use NULL. (Not duplicating patches that are already in -mm,
-bird, or -kj.)
Convert isdn driver struct initializer to use C99 syntax.
