drm/v3d: client ranges from axi_ids are different with V3D 7.1
The client mask has been reduced from 8 bits on V3D 4.1 to 7 bits
on V3D 7.1, so the ranges for each client are not compatible.
On V3D 7.1, the CSD client can also report MMU errors.
Therefore, add its AXI ID to the IDs list.

drm/v3d: fix client obtained from axi_ids on V3D 4.1
In the case of MMU errors caused by the TFU unit, the
client that causes the MMU error is expected to be reported.
But in the case of MMU TFU errors, a non existing client was
being reported. This happened because the client calculation
was taking into account more than the bits 0-7 from the
axi_id that were representing the client.
[ 27.845132] v3d fec00000.v3d: MMU error from client ? (13) at 0x3bb1000, pte invalid
Masking the bits and using the correct axi_id ranges fixes the
calculation to report the real guilty client on V3D 4.1 and 4.2.
Make the MMU error print axi_id with hexadecimal as used in the
ranges.

Merge tag 'drm-next-2025-03-28' of https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/kernel
Pull drm updates from Dave Airlie:
"Outside of drm there are some rust patches from Danilo who maintains
that area in here, and some pieces for drm header check tests.
The major things in here are a new driver supporting the touchbar
displays on M1/M2, the nova-core stub driver which is just the vehicle
for adding rust abstractions and start developing a real driver inside
of.
xe adds support for SVM with a non-driver specific SVM core
abstraction that will hopefully be useful for other drivers, along
with support for shrinking for TTM devices. I'm sure xe and AMD
support new devices, but the pipeline depth on these things is hard to
know what they end up being in the marketplace!

drm/v3d: Use V3D_SMS registers for power on/off and reset on V3D 7.x
In addition to the standard reset controller, V3D 7.x requires configuring the V3D_SMS registers for proper power on/off and reset. Add the new registers to `v3d_regs.h` and ensure they are properly configured during device probing, removal, and reset. This change fixes GPU reset issues on the Raspberry Pi 5 (BCM2712). Without exposing these registers, a GPU reset causes the GPU to hang, stopping any further job execution and freezing the desktop GUI. The same issue occurs when unloading and loading the v3d driver. drm/v3d: Associate a V3D tech revision to all supported devices
The V3D driver currently determines the GPU tech version (33, 41...) by reading a register. This approach has worked so far since this information wasn’t needed before powering on the GPU. V3D 7.1 introduces new registers that must be written to power on the GPU, requiring us to know the V3D version beforehand. To address this, associate each supported SoC with the corresponding VideoCore GPU version as part of the device data. To prevent possible mistakes, add an assertion to verify that the version specified in the device data matches the one reported by the hardware. If there is a mismatch, the kernel will trigger a warning. With the goal of maintaining consistency around the driver, use `enum v3d_gen` to assign values to `v3d->ver` and for comparisons with other V3D generations. Note that all mentions of unsupported or non-existing V3D generations (such as V3D 4.0) were removed by this commit and replaced with supported generations without functional changes. drm/v3d: Set job pointer to NULL when the job's fence has an error
Similar to commit
|

80cbee810e
|
drm/v3d: Don't run jobs that have errors flagged in its fence
The V3D driver still relies on `drm_sched_increase_karma()` and `drm_sched_resubmit_jobs()` for resubmissions when a timeout occurs. The function `drm_sched_increase_karma()` marks the job as guilty, while `drm_sched_resubmit_jobs()` sets an error (-ECANCELED) in the DMA fence of that guilty job. Because of this, we must check whether the job’s DMA fence has been flagged with an error before executing the job. Otherwise, the same guilty job may be resubmitted indefinitely, causing repeated GPU resets. This patch adds a check for an error on the job's fence to prevent running a guilty job that was previously flagged when the GPU timed out. Note that the CPU and CACHE_CLEAN queues do not require this check, as their jobs are executed synchronously once the DRM scheduler starts them. Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org Fixes: |

After a job completes, the corresponding pointer in the device must
be set to NULL. Failing to do so triggers a warning when unloading

drm/v3d: Remove `v3d->cpu_job`
CPU jobs, like Cache Clean jobs, execute synchronously once the DRM scheduler starts running them. Consequently, a global `v3d->cpu_job` variable is unnecessary, as everything is managed within the `v3d_cpu_job_run()` function. This commit removes the `v3d->cpu_job` pointer, as it is not needed. drm/v3d: Enable Performance Counters before clearing them
On the Raspberry Pi 5, performance counters are not being cleared
when `v3d_perfmon_start()` is called, even though we write to the
CLR register. As a result, their values accumulate until they
overflow.
The expected behavior is for performance counters to reset to zero
at the start of a job. When the job finishes and the perfmon is
stopped, the counters should accurately reflect the values for that
specific job.
To ensure this behavior, the performance counters are now enabled
before being cleared. This allows the CLR register to function as
intended, zeroing the counter values when the job begins.

Get rid of 'remove_new' relic from platform driver struct
The continual trickle of small conversion patches is grating on me, and is really not helping. Just get rid of the 'remove_new' member function, which is just an alias for the plain 'remove', and had a comment to that effect: /* * .remove_new() is a relic from a prototype conversion of .remove(). * New drivers are supposed to implement .remove(). Once all drivers are * converted to not use .remove_new any more, it will be dropped. */ This was just a tree-wide 'sed' script that replaced '.remove_new' with '.remove', with some care taken to turn a subsequent tab into two tabs to make things line up. I did do some minimal manual whitespace adjustment for places that used spaces to line things up. Then I just removed the old (sic) .remove_new member function, and this is the end result. No more unnecessary conversion noise. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> |

drm/v3d: Fix performance counter source settings on V3D 7.x
When the new register addresses were introduced for V3D 7.x, we added
new masks for performance counter sources on V3D 7.x. Nevertheless,
we never apply these new masks when setting the sources.
Fix the performance counter source settings on V3D 7.x by introducing
a new macro, `V3D_SET_FIELD_VER`, which allows fields setting to vary
by version. Using this macro, we can provide different values for
source mask based on the V3D version, ensuring that sources are
correctly configure on V3D 7.x.

This issue arises because, upon closing the file descriptor (which happens
when we interrupt `kmscube`), the active performance monitor is not
stopped. Although all perfmons are destroyed in `v3d_perfmon_close_file()`,
the active performance monitor's pointer (`v3d->active_perfmon`) is still
retained.
If `kmscube` is run again, the driver will attempt to stop the active
performance monitor using the stale pointer in `v3d->active_perfmon`.
However, this pointer is no longer valid because the previous process has
already terminated, and all performance monitors associated with it have
been destroyed and freed.
To fix this, when the active performance monitor belongs to a given
process, explicitly stop it before destroying and freeing it.

drm/v3d: Use gemfs/THP in BO creation if available
Although Big/Super Pages could appear naturally, it would be quite hard to have 1MB or 64KB allocated contiguously naturally. Therefore, we can force the creation of large pages allocated contiguously by using a mountpoint with "huge=within_size" enabled. Therefore, as V3D has a mountpoint with "huge=within_size" (if user has THP enabled), use this mountpoint for BO creation if available. drm/v3d: Support Big/Super Pages when writing out PTEs
The V3D MMU also supports 64KB and 1MB pages, called big and super pages, respectively. In order to set a 64KB page or 1MB page in the MMU, we need to make sure that page table entries for all 4KB pages within a big/super page must be correctly configured. In order to create a big/super page, we need a contiguous memory region. That's why we use a separate mountpoint with THP enabled. In order to place the page table entries in the MMU, we iterate over the 16 4KB pages (for big pages) or 256 4KB pages (for super pages) and insert the PTE. drm/v3d: Reduce the alignment of the node allocation
Currently, we are using an alignment of 128 kB to insert a node, which ends up wasting memory as we perform plenty of small BOs allocations (<= 4 kB). We require that allocations are aligned to 128Kb so for any allocation smaller than that, we are wasting the difference. This implies that we cannot effectively use the whole 4 GB address space available for the GPU in the RPi 4. Currently, we can allocate up to 32000 BOs of 4 kB (~140 MB) and 3000 BOs of 400 kB (~1,3 GB). This can be quite limiting for applications that have a high memory requirement, such as vkoverhead [1]. By reducing the page alignment to 4 kB, we can allocate up to 1000000 BOs of 4 kB (~4 GB) and 10000 BOs of 400 kB (~4 GB). Moreover, by performing benchmarks, we were able to attest that reducing the page alignment to 4 kB can provide a general performance improvement in OpenGL applications (e.g. glmark2). Therefore, this patch reduces the alignment of the node allocation to 4 kB, which will allow RPi users to explore the whole 4GB virtual address space provided by the hardware. Also, this patch allow users to fully run vkoverhead in the RPi 4/5, solving the issue reported in [1]. We must ensure that the MMU is flushed before we supply more memory to
the binner, otherwise we might end up with invalid MMU accesses by the
GPU.

drm/v3d: Address race-condition in MMU flush
We must first flush the MMU cache and then, flush the TLB, not the other
way around. Currently, we can see a race condition between the MMU cache
and the TLB when running multiple rendering processes at the same time.
This is evidenced by MMU errors triggered by the IRQ.
Fix the MMU flush order by flushing the MMU cache and then the TLB.
Also, in order to address the race condition, wait for the MMU cache flush
to finish before starting the TLB flush.

But it is a false positive because all the queue-stats pairs have their

Nevertheless we can appease lockdep by disabling local interrupts to make
it see lock usage is consistent.

drm/sched: add optional errno to drm_sched_start()
The current implementation of drm_sched_start uses a hardcoded
-ECANCELED to dispose of a job when the parent/hw fence is NULL.
This results in drm_sched_job_done being called with -ECANCELED for
each job with a NULL parent in the pending list, making it difficult
to distinguish between recovery methods, whether a queue reset or a
full GPU reset was used.
To improve this, we first try a soft recovery for timeout jobs and
use the error code -ENODATA. If soft recovery fails, we proceed with
a queue reset, where the error code remains -ENODATA for the job.
Finally, for a full GPU reset, we use error codes -ECANCELED or
-ETIME. This patch adds an error code parameter to drm_sched_start,
allowing us to differentiate between queue reset and GPU reset
failures. This enables user mode and test applications to validate
the expected correctness of the requested operation. After a
successful queue reset, the only way to continue normal operation is
to call drm_sched_job_done with the specific error code -ENODATA.
v1: Initial implementation by Jesse utilized amdgpu_device_lock_reset_domain
and amdgpu_device_unlock_reset_domain to allow user mode to track
the queue reset status and distinguish between queue reset and
GPU reset.
v2: Christian suggested using the error codes -ENODATA for queue reset
and -ECANCELED or -ETIME for GPU reset, returned to
amdgpu_cs_wait_ioctl.
v3: To meet the requirements, we introduce a new function
drm_sched_start_ex with an additional parameter to set
dma_fence_set_error, allowing us to handle the specific error
codes appropriately and dispose of bad jobs with the selected
error code depending on whether it was a queue reset or GPU reset.
v4: Alex suggested using a new name, drm_sched_start_with_recovery_error,
which more accurately describes the function's purpose.
Additionally, it was recommended to add documentation details
about the new method.
v5: Fixed declaration of new function drm_sched_start_with_recovery_error.(Alex)
v6 (chk): rebase on upstream changes, cleanup the commit message,
drop the new function again and update all callers,
apply the errno also to scheduler fences with hw fences
v7 (chk): rebased
