Dmitry Baryshkov fcbb93f1e4 drm/display: dp: change drm_dp_dpcd_read_link_status() return value
drm_dp_dpcd_read_link_status() follows the "return error code or number
of bytes read" protocol, with the code returning less bytes than
requested in case of some errors. However most of the drivers
interpreted that as "return error code in case of any error". Switch
drm_dp_dpcd_read_link_status() to drm_dp_dpcd_read_data() and make it
follow that protocol too.

Linus Torvalds e70140ba0d Get rid of 'remove_new' relic from platform driver struct
The continual trickle of small conversion patches is grating on me, and
is really not helping. Just get rid of the 'remove_new' member
function, which is just an alias for the plain 'remove', and had a
comment to that effect:

  /*
   * .remove_new() is a relic from a prototype conversion of .remove().
   * New drivers are supposed to implement .remove(). Once all drivers are
   * converted to not use .remove_new any more, it will be dropped.
   */

This was just a tree-wide 'sed' script that replaced '.remove_new' with
'.remove', with some care taken to turn a subsequent tab into two tabs
to make things line up.

I did do some minimal manual whitespace adjustment for places that used
spaces to line things up.

Then I just removed the old (sic) .remove_new member function, and this
is the end result. No more unnecessary conversion noise.

Douglas Anderson 918ce0906d drm/hisilicon/kirin: Call drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at shutdown/unbind time
Based on grepping through the source code this driver appears to be
missing a call to drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at system shutdown time
and at driver unbind time. Among other things, this means that if a
panel is in use that it won't be cleanly powered off at system
shutdown time.

The fact that we should call drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() in the case
of OS shutdown/restart and at driver remove (or unbind) time comes
straight out of the kernel doc "driver instance overview" in
drm_drv.c.

I have attempted to put this in the right place at unbind time. In
most other DRM drivers the call is made right after the call to
drm_kms_helper_poll_fini(), so I've put it there. That means that this
call will also be made in the case that we hit errors in bind, since
kirin_drm_kms_cleanup() is called both in the bind error path and in
unbind. I believe this is harmless even though it's not needed in the
bind error path.

For handling shutdown, we rely on the common technique of seeing if
the drvdata is NULL to know whether we need to call
drm_atomic_helper_shutdown(). This makes it important to make sure
that the drvdata is NULL if bind failed or if unbind was called. We
don't need the actual check for NULL and we'll rely on the patch
("drm/atomic-helper: drm_atomic_helper_shutdown(NULL) should be a
noop").

Douglas Anderson ce3d99c834 drm: Call drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at shutdown time for misc drivers
Based on grepping through the source code these drivers appear to be
missing a call to drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at system shutdown
time. Among other things, this means that if a panel is in use that it
won't be cleanly powered off at system shutdown time.

The fact that we should call drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() in the case
of OS shutdown/restart comes straight out of the kernel doc "driver
instance overview" in drm_drv.c.

All of the drivers in this patch were fairly straightforward to fix
since they already had a call to drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() at
remove/unbind time but were just lacking one at system shutdown. The
only hitch is that some of these drivers use the component model to
register/unregister their DRM devices. The shutdown callback is part
of the original device. The typical solution here, based on how other
DRM drivers do this, is to keep track of whether the device is bound
based on drvdata. In most cases the drvdata is the drm_device, so we
can just make sure it is NULL when the device is not bound. In some
drivers, this required minor code changes. To make things simpler,
drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() has been modified to consider a NULL
drm_device as a noop in the patch ("drm/atomic-helper:
drm_atomic_helper_shutdown(NULL) should be a noop").

Rob Herring 722d4f06e5 drm: Explicitly include correct DT includes
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate
of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus.
As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they
"temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h
and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include
files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and
replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to
explicitly include the correct includes.

Uwe Kleine-König 82a2c0cc1a drm/hisilicon: Convert to platform remove callback returning void
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes
many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by
returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored
and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a
quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this
quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns
void.

Trivially convert the hisilicon drm drivers from always returning zero
in the remove callback to the void returning variant.

drm/hisilicon: Add depends on MMU
The Kconfig symbol depended on MMU but was dropped by the commit
acad3fe650 ("drm/hisilicon: Removed the dependency on the mmu")
because it already had as a dependency ARM64 that already selects MMU.

But later, commit a0f25a6bb3 ("drm/hisilicon/hibmc: Allow to be built
if COMPILE_TEST is enabled") allowed the driver to be built for non-ARM64
when COMPILE_TEST is set but that could lead to unmet direct dependencies
and linking errors.

Prevent a kconfig warning when MMU is not enabled by making
DRM_HISI_HIBMC depend on MMU.

WARNING: unmet direct dependencies detected for DRM_TTM
  Depends on [n]: HAS_IOMEM [=y] && DRM [=m] && MMU [=n]
  Selected by [m]:
  - DRM_TTM_HELPER [=m] && HAS_IOMEM [=y] && DRM [=m]
  - DRM_HISI_HIBMC [=m] && HAS_IOMEM [=y] && DRM [=m] && PCI [=y] && (ARM64 || COMPILE_TEST [=y])
