We already emit a CONFIG_RELEASED event when a line is unexported over
sysfs (this is handled by gpiod_free()) but we don't do the opposite
when it's exported. This adds the missing call to
gpiod_line_state_notify().

The gpiolib debugfs interface exports a list of all gpio chips in a
system and the state of their pins.
The gpio chip sections are supposed to be separated by a newline
character, but a long-standing bug prevents the separator from
being included when output is generated in multiple sessions, making the
output inconsistent and hard to read.
Make sure to only suppress the newline separator at the beginning of the
file as intended.

Fix an issue detected by the Smatch tool:
drivers/gpio/gpiolib-swnode.c:78 swnode_find_gpio() error:
uninitialized symbol 'ret'.
The issue occurs because the 'ret' variable may be used without
initialization if the for_each_gpio_property_name loop does not run.
This could lead to returning an undefined value, causing unpredictable
behavior.
Initialize 'ret' to 0 before the loop to ensure the function
returns an error code if no properties are parsed, maintaining proper
error handling.

For optional GPIOs we may pass NULL to gpiod_direction_(input|output)().
With the call to the notifier chain added by commit 07c61d4da4
("gpiolib: notify user-space about in-kernel line state changes") we
will now dereference a NULL pointer in this case. The reason for that is
the fact that the expansion of the VALIDATE_DESC() macro (which returns
0 for NULL descriptors) was moved into the nonotify variants of the
direction setters.
Move them back to the top-level interfaces as the nonotify ones are only
ever called from inside the GPIO core and are always passed valid GPIO
descriptors. This way we'll never call the line_state notifier chain
with non-valid descs.

The complexity of config guards needed for ACPI_PTR() is not worthwhile
for the small amount of saved data. This example was doing it correctly

There are three definitions for the property names. Remove them as:
1) each of them is only used once;
2) in all cases the definition is longer than the value.
In the result code is better and grepping on the property immediately
gets the function in which is being used which helps to guess the type
of the value.

debounce_setup() stores the debounce_period_us if the driver supports
debounce, but the debounce_period_us is also stored where debounce_setup()
is called, independent of whether the debounce is being perfomed by
hardware or software.
Remove the redundant storing of the debounce_period_us in
debounce_setup().

We currently only notify user-space about line config changes that are
made from user-space. Any kernel config changes are not signalled.
Let's improve the situation by emitting the events closer to the source.
To that end let's call the relevant notifier chain from the functions
setting direction, gpiod_set_config(), gpiod_set_consumer_name() and
gpiod_toggle_active_low(). This covers all the options that we can
inform the user-space about. We ignore events which don't have
corresponding flags exported to user-space on purpose - otherwise the
user would see a config-changed event but the associated line-info would
remain unchanged.
gpiod_direction_output/input() can be called from any context.
Fortunately, we now emit line state events using an atomic notifier
chain, so it's no longer an issue.
Let's also add non-notifying wrappers around the direction setters in
order to not emit superfluous reconfigure events when requesting the
lines as the initial config should be part of the request notification.
Use gpio_do_set_config() instead of gpiod_set_debounce() for configuring
debouncing via hardware from the character device code to avoid multiple
reconfigure events.

In order to allow line state notifications to be emitted from atomic
context (for instance: from gpiod_direction_input/output()), we must
stop calling any sleeping functions in lineinfo_changed_notify(). To
that end let's use the new workqueue.
Let's atomically allocate small structures containing the required data
and fill it with information immediately upon being notified about the
change except for the pinctrl state which will be retrieved later from
process context. We can pretty reliably do this as pin functions are
typically set once per boot.
Let's make sure to bump the reference count of GPIO device and the GPIO
character device file descriptor to keep both alive until the event was
queued.

We don't need to guard the GPIO chip until its first dereference in
gpio_do_set_config().
First: change the prototype of gpio_do_set_config() to take the GPIO
line descriptor as argument, then move the gpio_chip protection into it
and drop it in two places where it's done too early.
This has the added benefit of making gpio_go_set_config() safe to use
from outside of this compilation unit without taking the gdev SRCU read
lock and will come in handy when we'll want to make it available to the
character device code.

After commit 0edb555a65 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove()
return void") .remove() is (again) the right callback to implement for
platform drivers.
Convert all platform drivers below drivers/gpio/ to use .remove(), with
the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As
.remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done
by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer.

FTDI FT2232H is a USB to GPIO chip. Sealevel produces some devices
with this chip. FT2232H presents itself as a composite device with two
interfaces (each is an "MPSSE"). Each MPSSE has two banks (high and low)
of 8 GPIO each. I believe some MPSSE's have only one bank, but I don't
know how to identify them (I don't have any for testing) and as a result
are unsupported for the time being.
Additionally, this driver provides software polling-based interrupts for
edge detection. For the Sealevel device I have to test with, this works
well because there is hardware debouncing. From talking to Sealevel's
people, this is their preferred way to do edge detection.

In the 7th generation of the SoC from Aspeed, the control logic of the
GPIO controller has been updated to support per-pin control. Each pin now
has its own 32-bit register, allowing for individual control of the pin's
value, direction, interrupt type, and other settings. The permission for
coprocessor access is supported by the hardware but hasn't been
implemented in the current patch.

Add low-level operations (llops) to abstract the register access for GPIO
registers and the coprocessor request/release. With this abstraction
layer, the driver can separate the hardware and software logic, making it
easier to extend the driver to support different hardware register
layouts.

Use module_platform_driver() to replace module_platform_driver_probe().
The former utilizes platform_driver_register(), which allows the driver to
defer probing when it doesn't acquire the necessary resources due to probe
order. In contrast, the latter uses __platform_driver_probe(), which
includes the comment "Note that this is incompatible with deferred
probing." Since our GPIO driver requires access to the clock resource, the
former is more suitable.

Performing a dummy read ensures that the register write operation is fully
completed, mitigating any potential bus delays that could otherwise impact
the frequency of bitbang usage. E.g., if the JTAG application uses GPIO to
control the JTAG pins (TCK, TMS, TDI, TDO, and TRST), and the application
sets the TCK clock to 1 MHz, the GPIO's high/low transitions will rely on
a delay function to ensure the clock frequency does not exceed 1 MHz.
However, this can lead to rapid toggling of the GPIO because the write
operation is POSTed and does not wait for a bus acknowledgment.

We currently iterate over the descriptors owned by the GPIO device we're
adding twice with the first loop just setting the gdev pointer. It's not
used anywhere between this and the second loop so just drop the first
one and move the assignment to the second.

We should only use v2 defines for line state change events. They will get
tranlated to v1 if needed by gpio_v2_line_info_changed_to_v1().

In `gpiod_get_label()`, it is possible that `srcu_dereference_check()` may
return a NULL pointer, leading to a scenario where `label->str` is accessed
without verifying if `label` itself is NULL.
This patch adds a proper NULL check for `label` before accessing
`label->str`. The check for `label->str != NULL` is removed because
`label->str` can never be NULL if `label` is not NULL.
This fixes the issue where the label name was being printed as `(efault)`
when dumping the sysfs GPIO file when `label == NULL`.

For drivers or board files that set gpio_chip->names, the links to the
GPIO attribute group created on sysfs export will be named after the
line's name set in that array. For lines that are named using device
properties, the names pointer of the gpio_chip struct is never assigned
so they are exported as if they're not named.
The ABI documentation does not mention the former behavior and given
that the majority of modern systems use device-tree, ACPI or other way
of passing GPIO names using device properties - bypassing gc->names -
it's better to make the behavior consistent by always exporting lines as
"gpioXYZ".

On a few platforms such as TI's AM69 device, disable_irq() fails to keep
track of the interrupts that happen between disable_irq() and
enable_irq() and those interrupts are missed. Use the ->irq_unmask() and
->irq_mask() methods instead of ->irq_enable() and ->irq_disable() to
correctly keep track of edges when disable_irq is called.
This solves the issue of disable_irq() not working as expected on such
platforms.

If we remove a GPIO chip that is also an interrupt controller with users
not having freed some interrupts, we'll end up leaking resources as
indicated by the following warning:
remove_proc_entry: removing non-empty directory 'irq/30', leaking at least 'gpio'
As there's no way of notifying interrupt users about the irqchip going
away and the interrupt subsystem is not plugged into the driver model and
so not all cases can be handled by devlinks, we need to make sure to free
all interrupts before the complete the removal of the provider.

To quote that commit,

Prepare ep93xx SOC gpio to convert into device tree driver:
- dropped banks and legacy defines
- split AB IRQ and make it shared
We are relying on IRQ number information A, B ports have single shared
IRQ, while F port have dedicated IRQ for each line.
Also we had to split single ep93xx platform_device into multiple, one
for each port, without this we can't do a full working transition from
legacy platform code into device tree capable. All GPIO_LOOKUP were
change to match new chip namings.

First of all, remove duplicate message that platform_get_irq()
does already print. Second, correct the error message when unable
to register a handler, which is broken in two ways:
1) the misleading 'get' vs. 'register';
2) missing '\n' at the end.
(Yes, for the curious ones, the dev_*() cases do not require '\n'
and issue it automatically, but it's better to have them explicit)

The mpc8xxx GPIO can generate an interrupt on state change. This
interrupt can be used to wake up the device from its sleep state if
enabled to do so. Add required support to the driver so that the GPIO
can be used in this way.
In order for the GPIO to actually function in this way, it is necessary
to also set the GPIO bit in the RCPM. This can be done via the device
tree fsl,rcpm-wakeup property.

Use dev_err_probe() to simplify the error path and unify a message
template.
Using this helper is totally fine even if err is known to never
be -EPROBE_DEFER.
The benefit compared to a normal dev_err() is the standardized format
of the error code, it being emitted symbolically and the fact that
the error code is returned which allows more compact error paths.

Immutable branch between MFD, GPIO and PWM due for the v6.12 merge window
During Linux graceful reboot, the GPIO interrupts are not disabled.
Since the drivers are not removed during graceful reboot,
the logic to call mlxbf3_gpio_irq_disable() is not triggered.
Interrupts that remain enabled can cause issues on subsequent boots.
For example, the mlxbf-gige driver contains PHY logic to bring up the link.
If the gpio-mlxbf3 driver loads first, the mlxbf-gige driver
will use a GPIO interrupt to bring up the link.
Otherwise, it will use polling.
The next time Linux boots and loads the drivers in this order, we encounter the issue:
- mlxbf-gige loads first and uses polling while the GPIO10
interrupt is still enabled from the previous boot. So if
the interrupt triggers, there is nothing to clear it.
- gpio-mlxbf3 loads.
- i2c-mlxbf loads. The interrupt doesn't trigger for I2C
because it is shared with the GPIO interrupt line which
was not cleared.
The solution is to add a shutdown function to the GPIO driver to clear and disable
all interrupts. Also clear the interrupt after disabling it in mlxbf3_gpio_irq_disable().

For IP which do not contain PDDR, currently use the pinmux API
pinctrl_gpio_direction_input() to config the output/input, pinmux
currently do not support get_direction(). So here add the GPIO
get_direction() support only for the IP which has Port Data
Direction Register (PDDR).

The ADP5585 is a 10/11 input/output port expander with a built in keypad
matrix decoder, programmable logic, reset generator, and PWM generator.
This driver supports the GPIO function using the platform device
registered by the core MFD driver.
The driver is derived from an initial implementation from NXP, available
in commit 451f61b46b76 ("MLK-25917-2 gpio: adp5585-gpio: add
adp5585-gpio support") in their BSP kernel tree. It has been extensively
rewritten.

Use of_property_present() to test for property presence rather than
of_find_property(). This is part of a larger effort to remove callers
of of_find_property() and similar functions. of_find_property() leaks
the DT struct property and data pointers which is a problem for
dynamically allocated nodes which may be freed.

so don't explicitly initialize this member.
This prepares putting driver_data in an anonymous union which requires
either no initialization or named designators. But it's also a nice

which others can start their work. There is still a long way to go
here before we have a multitude of rust drivers being added, but
it's a great first step.
- driver core const api changes. This reached across all bus types,
and there are some fix-ups for some not-common bus types that
linux-next and 0-day testing shook out. This work is being done to
help make the rust bindings more safe, as well as the C code, moving
toward the end-goal of allowing us to put driver structures into
read-only memory. We aren't there yet, but are getting closer.
- minor devres cleanups and fixes found by code inspection
- arch_topology minor changes
- other minor driver core cleanups
All of these have been in linux-next for a very long time with no
reported problems.

The of_property_for_each_u32() macro needs five parameters, two of which
are primarily meant as internal variables for the macro itself (in the
for() clause). Yet these two parameters are used by a few drivers, and this
can be considered misuse or at least bad practice.
Now that the kernel uses C11 to build, these two parameters can be avoided
by declaring them internally, thus changing this pattern:

However two variables cannot be declared in the for clause even with C11,
so declare one struct that contain the two variables we actually need. As
the variables inside this struct are not meant to be used by users of this
macro, give the struct instance the noticeable name "_it" so it is visible
during code reviews, helping to avoid new code to use it directly.
Most usages are trivially converted as they do not use those two
parameters, as expected. The non-trivial cases are:
- drivers/clk/clk.c, of_clk_get_parent_name(): easily doable anyway
- drivers/clk/clk-si5351.c, si5351_dt_parse(): this is more complex as the
checks had to be replicated in a different way, making code more verbose
and somewhat uglier, but I refrained from a full rework to keep as much
of the original code untouched having no hardware to test my changes
All the changes have been build tested. The few for which I have the
hardware have been runtime-tested too.

Pull gpio updates from Bartosz Golaszewski:
"The majority of added lines are two new modules: the GPIO virtual
consumer module that improves our ability to add automated tests for
the kernel API and the "sloppy" logic analyzer module that uses the
GPIO API to implement a coarse-grained debugging tool for useful for
remote development.
Other than that we have the usual assortment of various driver
extensions, improvements to the core GPIO code, DT-bindings and other
documentation updates as well as an extension to the interrupt
simulator:
GPIOLIB core:
- rework kfifo handling rework in the character device code
- improve the labeling of GPIOs requested as interrupts and show more
info on interrupt-only GPIOs in debugfs
- remove unused APIs
- unexport interfaces that are only used from the core GPIO code
- drop the return value from gpiochip_set_desc_names() as it cannot
fail
- move a string array definition out of a header and into a specific
compilation unit
- convert the last user of gpiochip_get_desc() other than GPIO core
to using a safer alternative
- use array_index_nospec() where applicable
New drivers:
- add a "virtual GPIO consumer" module that allows requesting GPIOs
from actual hardware and driving tests of the in-kernel GPIO API
from user-space over debugfs
- add a GPIO-based "sloppy" logic analyzer module useful for "first
glance" debugging on remote boards
Driver improvements:
- add support for a new model to gpio-pca953x
- lock GPIOs as interrupts in gpio-sim when the lines are requested
as irqs via the simulator domain + some other minor improvements
- improve error reporting in gpio-syscon
- convert gpio-ath79 to using dynamic GPIO base and range
- use pcibios_err_to_errno() for converting PCIBIOS error codes to
errno vaues in gpio-amd8111 and gpio-rdc321x

The GPIO subsystem used to have a serious problem with undefined behavior
and use-after-free bugs on hot-unplug of GPIO chips. This can be
considered a corner-case by some as most GPIO controllers are enabled
early in the boot process and live until the system goes down but most
GPIO drivers do allow unbind over sysfs, many are loadable modules that
can be (force) unloaded and there are also GPIO devices that can be
dynamically detached, for instance CP2112 which is a USB GPIO expender.
Bugs can be triggered both from user-space as well as by in-kernel users.
We have the means of testing it from user-space via the character device
but the issues manifest themselves differently in the kernel.
This is a proposition of adding a new virtual driver - a configurable
GPIO consumer that can be configured over configfs (similarly to
gpio-sim) or described on the device-tree.
This driver is aimed as a helper in spotting any regressions in
hot-unplug handling in GPIOLIB.

DTS for Nokia N900 incorrectly specifies "active high" polarity for
the reset line, while the chip documentation actually specifies it as
"active low". In the past the driver fudged gpiod API and inverted
the logic internally, but it was changed in d0d89493bf.

bgpio_bits must be aligned with the data bus width. For example, on a
32 bit big endian system and we only have 16 GPIOs. If we only assume
bgpio_bits=16 we can never control the GPIO because the base address
is the lowest address.

In the match() callback, the struct device_driver * should not be
changed, so change the function callback to be a const *. This is one
step of many towards making the driver core safe to have struct
device_driver in read-only memory.
Because the match() callback is in all busses, all busses are modified
to handle this properly. This does entail switching some container_of()
calls to container_of_const() to properly handle the constant *.
For some busses, like PCI and USB and HV, the const * is cast away in
the match callback as those busses do want to modify those structures at
this point in time (they have a local lock in the driver structure.)
That will have to be changed in the future if they wish to have their
struct device * in read-only-memory.

within the GPIOLIB core. Remove it from the public header and unexport
it as all current users are linked against the compilation unit where
it is defined.

As it turns out, there is a large number of out-of-tree DTSes (in
OpenWrt project) that used to specify incorrect (active high) polarity
for the Lantiq reset GPIO, so to keep compatibility while they are
being updated a quirk for force the polarity low is needed. Luckily
these old DTSes used nonstandard name for the property ("gpio-reset" vs
"reset-gpios") so the quirk will not hurt if there are any new devices
that need inverted polarity as they can specify the right polarity in
their DTS when using the standard "reset-gpios" property.
Additionally the condition to enable the transition from standard to
non-standard reset GPIO property name was inverted and the replacement
name for the property was not correct. Fix this as well.

This is a sloppy logic analyzer using GPIOs. It comes with a script to
isolate a CPU for polling. While this is definitely not a production
level analyzer, it can be a helpful first view when remote debugging.

linereq_set_config() behaves badly when direction is not set.
The configuration validation is borrowed from linereq_create(), where,
to verify the intent of the user, the direction must be set to in order to
effect a change to the electrical configuration of a line. But, when
applied to reconfiguration, that validation does not allow for the unset
direction case, making it possible to clear flags set previously without
specifying the line direction.
Adding to the inconsistency, those changes are not immediately applied by
linereq_set_config(), but will take effect when the line value is next get
or set.
For example, by requesting a configuration with no flags set, an output
line with GPIO_V2_LINE_FLAG_ACTIVE_LOW and GPIO_V2_LINE_FLAG_OPEN_DRAIN
set could have those flags cleared, inverting the sense of the line and
changing the line drive to push-pull on the next line value set.
Skip the reconfiguration of lines for which the direction is not set, and
only reconfigure the lines for which direction is set.

Value of pdata->gpio_unbanked is taken from Device Tree. In case of broken
DT due to any error this value can be any. Without this value validation
there can be out of chips->irqs array boundaries access in
davinci_gpio_probe().
Validate the obtained nirq value so that it won't exceed the maximum
number of IRQs per bank.
Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with SVACE.

Ensure that `i2c_lock' is held when setting interrupt latch and mask in
pca953x_irq_bus_sync_unlock() in order to avoid races.
The other (non-probe) call site pca953x_gpio_set_multiple() ensures the
lock is held before calling pca953x_write_regs().
The problem occurred when a request raced against irq_bus_sync_unlock()
approximately once per thousand reboots on an i.MX8MP based system.

The gpio_suffixes array is defined in the gpiolib.h header. This means
the array is stored in .rodata of every compilation unit that includes
it. Put the definition for the array in gpiolib.c and export just the
symbol in the header. We need the size of the array so expose it too.

The TQMx86 GPIO controller only supports falling and rising edge
triggers, but not both. Fix this by implementing a software both-edge
mode that toggles the edge type after every interrupt.

irq_set_type() should not implicitly unmask the IRQ.
All accesses to the interrupt configuration register are moved to a new
helper tqmx86_gpio_irq_config(). We also introduce the new rule that
accessing irq_type must happen while locked, which will become
significant for fixing EDGE_BOTH handling.

The TQMx86 GPIO controller uses the same register address for input and
output data. Reading the register will always return current inputs
rather than the previously set outputs (regardless of the current
direction setting). Therefore, using a RMW pattern does not make sense
when setting output values. Instead, the previously set output register
value needs to be stored as a shadow register.
As there is no reliable way to get the current output values from the
hardware, also initialize all channels to 0, to ensure that stored and
actual output values match. This should usually not have any effect in
practise, as the TQMx86 UEFI sets all outputs to 0 during boot.
Also prepare for extension of the driver to more than 8 GPIOs by using
DECLARE_BITMAP.

Add support for the TI TCA9535 variant.
The NXP PCA9535 is already supported by the driver.
TCA9535 supports lower voltage operation (down to 1.65V VCC)
compared to PCA (down to 2.3V VCC).
>From a software perspective, these models are equivalent as they
have the same register map.

The handling of kfifo_out() errors in read functions obscures any error.
The error condition should never occur but, while a ret is set to -EIO, it
is subsequently ignored and the read functions instead return the number
of bytes copied to that point, potentially masking the fact that any error
occurred.
Log a warning and return -EIO in the case of a kfifo_out() error to make
it clear something very odd is going on here.

The initialisation of the linereq events kfifo relies on the struct being
zeroed and a subsequent call to kfifo_alloc(). The call to kfifo_alloc()
is deferred until edge detection is first enabled for the linereq. If the
kfifo is inadvertently accessed before the call to kfifo_alloc(), as was
the case in a recently discovered bug, it behaves as a FIFO of size 1 with
an element size of 0, so writes and reads to the kfifo appear successful
but copy no actual data.
As a defensive measure, initialise the kfifo with INIT_KFIFO() when the
events kfifo is constructed. This initialises the kfifo element size
and zeroes its data pointer, so any inadvertant access prior to the
kfifo_alloc() call will trigger an oops.

rdc_gpio_config() uses pci_{read,write}_config_dword() that return
PCIBIOS_* codes. rdc_gpio_config() is used for
direction_{input,output}() in the struct gpio_chip which both require
normal errnos to be returned.
Similarly, rdc321x_gpio_probe() that is probe function returns
PCIBIOS_* codes without converting them first into normal errnos.
Convert PCIBIOS_* returns code using pcibios_err_to_errno() into normal
errno before returning them to fix both issues.

amd_gpio_init() uses pci_read_config_dword() that returns PCIBIOS_*
codes. The return code is then returned as is but amd_gpio_init() is
a module init function that should return normal errnos.
Convert PCIBIOS_* returns code using pcibios_err_to_errno() into normal
errno before returning it from amd_gpio_init().

Do not issue "can't read the data register offset!" when gpio,syscon-dev
is not set albeit unneeded. gpio-syscon is used with rk3328 chip, but
this iomem region is documented in
Documentation/devicetree/bindings/gpio/rockchip,rk3328-grf-gpio.yaml and
does not require gpio,syscon-dev setting.

Userspace may trigger a speculative read of an address outside the gpio
descriptor array.
Users can do that by calling gpio_ioctl() with an offset out of range.
Offset is copied from user and then used as an array index to get
the gpio descriptor without sanitization in gpio_device_get_desc().
This change ensures that the offset is sanitized by using
array_index_nospec() to mitigate any possibility of speculative
information leaks.
This bug was discovered and resolved using Coverity Static Analysis
Security Testing (SAST) by Synopsys, Inc.

Previous patch modified the standard used by acpi_gpiochip_find()
to match device nodes. Using the device node set in gc->gpiodev->d-
ev instead of gc->parent.
However, there is a situation in gpio-dwapb where the GPIO device
driver will set gc->fwnode for each port corresponding to a child
node under a GPIO device, so gc->gpiodev->dev will be assigned the
value of each child node in gpiochip_add_data().

When other drivers request GPIO pin resources through the GPIO device
node provided by ACPI (corresponding to the parent node), the change
of the matching object to gc->gpiodev->dev in acpi_gpiochip_find()
only allows finding the value of each port (child node), resulting
in a failed request.
Reapply the condition of using gc->parent for match in acpi_gpio-
chip_find() in the code can compatible with the problem of gpio-dwapb,
and will not affect the two cases mentioned in the patch:
1. There is no setting for gc->fwnode.
2. The case that depends on using gc->fwnode for match.

If a line is requested with debounce, and that results in debouncing
in software, and the line is subsequently reconfigured to enable edge
detection then the allocation of the kfifo to contain edge events is
overlooked. This results in events being written to and read from an
uninitialised kfifo. Read events are returned to userspace.
Initialise the kfifo in the case where the software debounce is
already active.

The use-after-free issue occurs as follows: when the GPIO chip device file
is being closed by invoking gpio_chrdev_release(), watched_lines is freed
by bitmap_free(), but the unregistration of lineinfo_changed_nb notifier
chain failed due to waiting write rwsem. Additionally, one of the GPIO
chip's lines is also in the release process and holds the notifier chain's
read rwsem. Consequently, a race condition leads to the use-after-free of
watched_lines.

The side effect of the use-after-free issue is that a GPIO line event is
being generated for userspace where it shouldn't. However, since the chrdev
is being closed, userspace won't have the chance to read that event anyway.
To fix the issue, call the bitmap_free() function after the unregistration
of lineinfo_changed_nb notifier chain.

We used a per-descriptor SRCU struct in order to not impose a wait with
synchronize_srcu() for descriptor X on read-only operations of
descriptor Y. Now that we no longer call synchronize_srcu() on
descriptor label change but only when releasing descriptor resources, we
can use a single SRCU structure for all GPIO descriptors in a given chip.

Commit 1f2bcb8c8c ("gpio: protect the descriptor label with SRCU")
caused a massive drop in performance of requesting GPIO lines due to the
call to synchronize_srcu() on each label change. Rework the code to not
wait until all read-only users are done with reading the label but
instead atomically replace the label pointer and schedule its release
after all read-only critical sections are done.
To that end wrap the descriptor label in a struct that also contains the
rcu_head struct required for deferring tasks using call_srcu() and stop
using kstrdup_const() as we're required to allocate memory anyway. Just
allocate enough for the label string and rcu_head in one go.

Some drivers (e.g. gpio-mt7621 and gpio-brcmstb) have multiple
gpiochip banks within a single device. Unfortunately, the
gpio-ranges property of the device node was being applied to
every gpiochip of the device with device relative GPIO offset
values rather than gpiochip relative GPIO offset values.
This commit makes use of the gpio_chip offset value which can be
non-zero for such devices to split the device node gpio-ranges
property into GPIO offset ranges that can be applied to each
of the relevant gpiochips of the device.

The controller has several register bits describing access control
information for a given GPIO pin. When SCR_SEC_[R|W]EN is unset, it
means we have full read/write access to all the registers for given GPIO
pin. When SCR_SEC[R|W]EN is set, it means we need to further check the
accompanying SCR_SEC_G1[R|W] bit to determine read/write access to all
the registers for given GPIO pin.
This check was previously declaring that a GPIO pin was accessible
only if either of the following conditions were met:
- SCR_SEC_REN + SCR_SEC_WEN both set
or
- SCR_SEC_REN + SCR_SEC_WEN both set and
SCR_SEC_G1R + SCR_SEC_G1W both set
Update the check to properly handle cases where only one of
SCR_SEC_REN or SCR_SEC_WEN is set.

It's ambiguous to have a device-related index in the GPIO interrupt
label as most of the devices will have it the same or very similar.
Extend label with fwnode name for better granularity. It significantly
reduces the scope of searching among devices.

In the cases when gpio_is_valid() is called with unsigned parameter
the result is always true in the GPIO library code, hence the check
for false won't ever be true. Get rid of such calls.
While at it, move GPIO device base to be unsigned to clearly show
it won't ever be negative. This requires a new definition for the
maximum GPIO number in the system.

SPI devices can specify a cs-gpios property to enumerate their
chip selects. Under device tree, a zero entry in this property can
be used to specify that a particular chip select is using the SPI
controllers native chip select, for example:

Here, the second chip select is native. However, when using swnodes
there is currently no way to specify a native chip select. The
proposal here is to register a swnode_gpio_undefined software node,
that can be specified to allow the indication of a native chip

When adding sanitization of the label, the path through
edge_detector_setup() that leads to debounce_setup() was overlooked.
A request taking this path does not allocate a new label and the
request label is freed twice when the request is released, resulting
in memory corruption.
Add label sanitization to debounce_setup().

We need to take into account that a line's consumer label may be NULL
and not try to kstrdup() it in that case but rather pass the NULL
pointer up the stack to the interrupt request function.
To that end: let make_irq_label() return NULL as a valid return value
and use ERR_PTR() instead to signal an allocation failure to callers.

When a gpiochip gets added by loading a module, then another driver may
be waiting for that gpiochip to load on the deferred-probe list.
If the deferred-probe for the consumer of gpiochip then triggers between
the gpiodev_add_to_list_unlocked() calls which makes gpio_device_find()
see the chip and the gpiochip_setup_dev() later then gpio_device_find()
does a kobject_get() on an uninitialized kobject since the kobject is
initialized by gpiochip_setup_dev() calling device_initialize():

added to the list things like the irqchip also have not been initialized

So gpio_device_find() should really ignore the gpio-device until

When an interrupt is requested, a procfs directory is created under
"/proc/irq/<irqnum>/<label>" where <label> is the string passed to one of
the request_irq() variants.
What follows is that the string must not contain the "/" character or
the procfs mkdir operation will fail. We don't have such constraints for
GPIO consumer labels which are used verbatim as interrupt labels for
GPIO irqs. We must therefore sanitize the consumer string before
requesting the interrupt.
Let's replace all "/" with ":".

"The biggest feature is the locking overhaul. Up until now the
synchronization in the GPIO subsystem was broken. There was a single
spinlock "protecting" multiple data structures but doing it wrong (as
evidenced by several places where it would be released when a sleeping
function was called and then reacquired without checking the protected
state).
We tried to use an RW semaphore before but the main issue with GPIO is
that we have drivers implementing the interfaces in both sleeping and
non-sleeping ways as well as user-facing interfaces that can be called
both from process as well as atomic contexts. Both ends converge in
the same code paths that can use neither spinlocks nor mutexes. The
only reasonable way out is to use SRCU and go mostly lockless. To that
end: we add several SRCU structs in relevant places and use them to

fixes in the first week or two after which it stabilized nicely. The
GPIO subsystem is now resilient to providers being suddenly unbound.

EC), much appreciated documentation improvements from Kent and the
regular driver improvements, DT-bindings updates and GPIOLIB core

When `CONFIG_DEBUG_FS` is disabled, nmk_gpio_dbg_show_one() is an
empty dummy function; this however triggers a `-Wmissing-prototypes`
warning and later a linker error because the function is also used by
drivers/pinctrl/nomadik/pinctrl-nomadik.c, therefore it needs to be
non-static.
To allow both sources to access this dummy function, this patch moves
it to the header, adding the `#ifdef CONFIG_DEBUG_FS` there as well.

Several commits introduce managed resources (devm_*) into the
nmk_gpio_populate_chip() function.
This isn't always working because when called from the Nomadik pin
control driver we just want to populate some states for the device as
the same states are used by the pin control driver.
Some managed resources such as devm_kzalloc() etc will work, as the
passed in platform device will be used for lifecycle management,
but in some cases where we used the looked-up platform device
for the GPIO block, this will cause problems for the combined
pin control and GPIO driver, because it adds managed resources
to the GPIO device before it is probed, which is something that
the device core will not accept, and all of the GPIO blocks will
refuse to probe:

Fix this by not tying any managed resources to the looked-up
gpio_pdev/gpio_dev device, let's just live with the fact that
these need imperative resource management for now.

There is no need to repeat for-loop twice in the error path in
gpiochip_add_data_with_key(). Deduplicate it. While at it,
rename loop variable to be more specific and avoid ambguity.
It also properly unwinds the SRCU, i.e. in reversed order of allocating.

Previously driver got a few updates in order to replace OF APIs by
respective firmware node, however it was not finished to the logical
end, e.g., some APIs that has been used are still require OF node
to be passed. Finish that job by converting leftovers to use firmware
node APIs.

Chip outputs are enabled[1] before actual reset is performed[2] which might
cause pin output value to flip flop if previous pin value was set to 1.
Fix that behavior by making sure chip is fully reset before all outputs are
enabled.
Flip-flop can be noticed when module is removed and inserted again and one of
the pins was changed to 1 before removal. 100 microsecond flipping is
noticeable on oscilloscope (100khz SPI bus).
For a properly reset chip - output is enabled around 100 microseconds (on 100khz
SPI bus) later during probing process hence should be irrelevant behavioral
change.

Fetch a reference to the optional shared reset control and deassert it
if it exists.
Optional because not all platforms that use this driver have a reset
attached to the reset block. Shared because some platforms that use the
reset (at least Mobileye EyeQ5) share the reset across banks.
Do not keep a reference to the reset control as it is not needed
afterwards; the driver does not handle suspend, does not use runtime
PM, does not register a remove callback and does not support unbinding
from sysfs (made explicit with suppress_bind_attrs).
The operation is done in nmk_gpio_populate_chip(). This function is
called by either gpio-nomadik or pinctrl-nomadik, whoever comes first.
This is here for historic reasons and could probably be removed now; it
seems gpio-ranges enforces the ordering to be pinctrl-first. It is not
the topic of the present patch however.

We create a custom compatible for the STA2X11 IP block as integrated
into the Mobileye EyeQ5 platform. Its wake and alternate functions have
been disabled, we want to avoid touching those registers.

Read the "ngpios" property to determine the number of GPIOs for a bank.
If not available, fallback to NMK_GPIO_PER_CHIP ie 32 ie the current
behavior.
The IP block always supports 32 GPIOs, but platforms can expose a lesser
amount. The Mobileye EyeQ5 is in this case; one bank is 29 GPIOs and
the other is 23.

Support a single IRQs used by multiple GPIO banks. Change the IRQ
handler type from a chained handler (as used by gpiolib
for ->parent_handler) to a threaded IRQ.
Use the generic_handle_domain_irq_safe() helper. The non-safe version
must be called in a no-IRQ context.
The Mobileye EyeQ5 platform uses this GPIO controller and share an IRQ
for its two banks.
