Tomi Valkeinen 96b5d2e807 drm: xlnx: zynqmp_dpsub: Fix kernel doc
Fix two kernel doc warnings introduced by the recent DP audio patch:

- Add a doc line for the new "audio" field
- Remove a reference to zynqmp_dpsub.c from zynqmp.rst, as the .c file
  no longer has structured comments

Yunxiang Li e77d0401e8 Documentation/gpu: Clarify drm memory stats definition
Define how to handle buffers with multiple possible placement so we
don't get incompatible implementations. Callout the resident requirement
for drm-purgeable- explicitly. Remove the requirement for there to be
only drm-memory- or only drm-resident-, it's not what's implemented and
having both is better for back-compat. Also re-order the paragraphs to
flow better.

Thomas Weißschuh 22e5c7ae12 drm: Add panel backlight quirks
Panels using a PWM-controlled backlight source do not have a standard
way to communicate their valid PWM ranges.
On x86 the ranges are read from ACPI through driver-specific tables.
The built-in ranges are not necessarily correct, or may grow stale if an
older device can be retrofitted with newer panels.

Add a quirk infrastructure with which the minimum valid backlight value
can be maintained as part of the kernel.

Whilst we have support for setting fan curves there is no support for
disabling the zero RPM feature. Since the relevant bits are already

Sean Anderson 28edaacb82 drm: zynqmp_dp: Add debugfs interface for compliance testing
Add a debugfs interface for exercising the various test modes supported
by the DisplayPort controller. This allows performing compliance
testing, or performing signal integrity measurements on a failing link.
At the moment, we do not support sink-driven link quality testing,
although such support would be fairly easy to add.

Additionally, add some debugfs files for ignoring AUX errors and HPD
events, as this can allow testing with equipment that cannot emulate a
DPRX.

Rodrigo Siqueira 4c5d0fc5c8 Documentation/gpu/amdgpu: Add programming model for DCN
One of the challenges to contributing to the display code is the
complexity of the DC component. This commit adds a documentation page
that discusses the programming model used by DCN and an overview of how
the display code is organized.

Thomas Zimmermann df7e8b522a drm/client: Move client event handlers to drm_client_event.c
A number of DRM-client functions serve as entry points from device
operations to client code. Moving them info a separate file will later
allow for a more fine-grained kernel configuration. For most of the
users it is sufficient to include <drm/drm_client_event.h> instead of
the full driver-side interface in <drm/drm_client.h>

Tvrtko Ursulin 2c04742b04 Documentation/gpu: Document the situation with unqualified drm-memory-
Currently it is not well defined what is drm-memory- compared to other
categories.

In practice the only driver which emits these keys is amdgpu and in them
exposes the current resident buffer object memory (including shared).

To prevent any confusion, document that drm-memory- is deprecated and an
alias for drm-resident-memory-.

While at it also clarify that the reserved sub-string 'memory' refers to
the memory region component, and also clarify the intended semantics of
other memory categories.

v2:
 * Also mark drm-memory- as deprecated.
 * Add some more text describing memory categories. (Alex)

v3:
 * Semantics of the amdgpu drm-memory is actually as drm-resident.

Adrián Larumbe 6a797bdfde drm/panthor: add sysfs knob for enabling job profiling
This commit introduces a DRM device sysfs attribute that lets UM control
the job accounting status in the device. The knob variable had been brought
in as part of a previous commit, but now we're able to fix it manually.

As sysfs files are part of a driver's uAPI, describe its legitimate input
values and output format in a documentation file.

Christian König f07a0d1bf7 drm/doc: Document submission error signaling
Different approaches have been tried to signal resets and other errors in
vendor specific ways which not only resulted in a wide variety of
implementations but also repeating the same bugs and problems over different
drivers.

Document that drivers should use dma_fence based error signaling which is
vendor agnostic and allows userspace to query submission errors in generic
non-vendor specific code.

Leo Li a08d75927f drm/amd: Introduce additional IPS debug flags
[Why]

Idle power states (IPS) describe levels of power-gating within DCN. DM
and DC is responsible for ensuring that we are out of IPS before any DCN
programming happens. Any DCN programming while we're in IPS leads to
undefined behavior (mostly hangs).

Because IPS intersects with all display features, the ability to disable
IPS by default while ironing out the known issues is desired. However,
disabing it completely will cause important features such as s0ix entry
to fail.

Therefore, more granular IPS debug flags are desired.

[How]

Extend the dc debug mask bits to include the available list of IPS
debug flags.

All the flags should work as documented, with the exception of
IPS_DISABLE_DYNAMIC. It requires dm changes which will be done in
later changes.

Douglas Anderson f00bfaca70 drm/panel: Avoid warnings w/ panel-simple/panel-edp at shutdown
At shutdown if you've got a _properly_ coded DRM modeset driver then
you'll get these two warnings at shutdown time:

Skipping disable of already disabled panel
Skipping unprepare of already unprepared panel

These warnings are ugly and sound concerning, but they're actually a
sign of a properly working system. That's not great.

We're not ready to get rid of the calls to drm_panel_disable() and
drm_panel_unprepare() because we're not 100% convinced that all DRM
modeset drivers are properly calling drm_atomic_helper_shutdown() or
drm_helper_force_disable_all() at the right times. However, having the
warning show up for correctly working systems is bad.

As a bit of a workaround, add some "if" tests to try to avoid the
warning on correctly working systems. Also add some comments and
update the TODO items in the hopes that future developers won't be too
confused by what's going on here.

Rodrigo Siqueira 4b0eb9ce15 Documentation/amdgpu: Fix duplicate declaration
Address the below kernel doc warning:

Documentation/gpu/amdgpu/display/display-manager:134:

declaration, also defined at gpu/amdgpu/display/dcn-blocks:101.

declaration, also defined at gpu/amdgpu/display/dcn-blocks:3.
Declaration is '.. c:enum:: mpcc_alpha_blend_mode'.

To address the above warnings, this commit uses the 'no-identifiers'
option in the dcn-blocks to avoid duplication with the previous use of
this function doc in the display-manager file. Finally, replaces the
deprecated ':function:' in favor of ':identifiers:'.

drm/connector: hdmi: Add Broadcast RGB property
The i915 driver has a property to force the RGB range of an HDMI output.
The vc4 driver then implemented the same property with the same
semantics. KWin has support for it, and a PR for mutter is also there to
support it.

Both drivers implementing the same property with the same semantics,
plus the userspace having support for it, is proof enough that it's
pretty much a de-facto standard now and we can provide helpers for it.

Let's plumb it into the newly created HDMI connector.

Maxime Ripard 10af38d9e7
drm/doc: Remove unused Broadcast RGB Property
The Broadcast RGB property has been documented as three separate entries
so far, each with a different set of values.

The first one is pretty much the generic one: it's used by i915 and vc4,
and is the one used by all the compositors.

The second one is used by the gma500 driver, and is a subset of the
first one: it can have the values "Full" or "Limited 16:235", but lack
the "Automatic" value.

The third one however isn't used by any driver and documents the values
"off", "auto" and "on".

It's unclear where the last one comes from. It was first documented in
commit 6c6a3996f2 ("Documentation: drm: describing drm properties
exposed by various drivers") which adds a number of properties used by
drivers, but without mentioning which driver was using what property.

Grepping at the 6c6a3996f2 commit however, it looks like no driver is
actually using it, and a quick look at the entire kernel history doesn't
show any match either.

At the time though, gma500 had an "audio" property used right next to
Broadcast RGB that did have the "off", "auto" and "on" values in the
same order.

As such, it was probably a copy/paste or scripting error back then, and
there's never been such property used in the kernel.

Either way, it certainly hasn't been used in a decade or two so we can
just get rid of it.

Lucas De Marchi 188ced1e0f drm/xe/client: Print runtime to fdinfo
Print the accumulated runtime for client when printing fdinfo.
Each time a query is done it first does 2 things:

1) loop through all the exec queues for the current client and
accumulate the runtime, per engine class. CTX_TIMESTAMP is used for
that, being read from the context image.

2) Read a "GPU timestamp" that can be used for considering "how much GPU
time has passed" and that has the same unit/refclock as the one
recording the runtime. RING_TIMESTAMP is used for that via MMIO.

Since for all current platforms RING_TIMESTAMP follows the same
refclock, just read it once, using any first engine available.

This is exported to userspace as 2 numbers in fdinfo:

	drm-cycles-<class>: <RUNTIME>
	drm-total-cycles-<class>: <TIMESTAMP>

Userspace is expected to collect at least 2 samples, which allows to
know the client engine busyness as per:

		    RUNTIME1 - RUNTIME0
	busyness = ---------------------
			  T1 - T0

Since drm-cycles-<class> always starts at 0, it's also possible to know
if and engine was ever used by a client.

It's expected that userspace will read any 2 samples every few seconds.
Given the update frequency of the counters involved and that
CTX_TIMESTAMP is 32-bits, the counter for each exec_queue can wrap
around (assuming 100% utilization) after ~200s. The wraparound is not
perceived by userspace since it's just accumulated for all the
exec_queues in a 64-bit counter) but the measurement will not be
accurate if the samples are too far apart.

This could be mitigated by adding a workqueue to accumulate the counters
every so often, but it's additional complexity for something that is
done already by userspace every few seconds in tools like gputop (from
igt), htop, nvtop, etc, with none of them really defaulting to 1 sample
per minute or more.

Douglas Anderson 966e397e4f drm/mipi-dsi: Introduce mipi_dsi_*_write_seq_multi()
The current mipi_dsi_*_write_seq() macros are non-intutitive because
they contain a hidden "return" statement that will return out of the
_caller_ of the macro. Let's mark them as deprecated and instead
introduce some new macros that are more intuitive.

These new macros are less optimal when an error occurs but should
behave more optimally when there is no error. Specifically these new
macros cause smaller code to get generated and the code size savings
(less to fetch from RAM, less cache space used, less RAM used) are
important. Since the error case isn't something we need to optimize
for and these new macros are easier to understand and more flexible,
they should be used.

After converting to use these new functions, one example shows some
nice savings while also being easier to understand.

Luca Coelho ce698dcf10 Documentation/i915: remove kernel-doc for DMC wakelocks
The function descriptions are optional and have not yet been added to
the DMC wakelock code, so we shouldn't try to use it. Since this is a
regression, remove the kernel-doc entry for DMC wakelocks for now.
The proper documentation will be added in a future patch.

Jani Nikula 7fb8af6798 drm: deprecate driver date
The driver date serves no useful purpose, because it's hardly ever
updated. The information is misleading at best.

As described in Documentation/gpu/drm-internals.rst:

The driver date, formatted as YYYYMMDD, is meant to identify the date
of the latest modification to the driver. However, as most drivers
fail to update it, its value is mostly useless. The DRM core prints it
to the kernel log at initialization time and passes it to userspace
  through the DRM_IOCTL_VERSION ioctl.

Stop printing the driver date at init, and start returning the empty
string "" as driver date through the DRM_IOCTL_VERSION ioctl.

The driver date initialization in drivers and the struct drm_driver date
member can be removed in follow-up.

Luca Coelho 765425f598 drm/i915/display: add support for DMC wakelocks
In order to reduce the DC5->DC2 restore time, wakelocks have been
introduced in DMC so the driver can tell it when registers and other
memory areas are going to be accessed and keep their respective blocks
awake.

Implement this in the driver by adding the concept of DMC wakelocks.
When the driver needs to access memory which lies inside pre-defined
ranges, it will tell DMC to set the wakelock, access the memory, then
wait for a while and clear the wakelock.

The wakelock state is protected in the driver with spinlocks to
prevent concurrency issues.

Boris Brezillon 0f25e493a2 drm/panthor: Add uAPI
Panthor follows the lead of other recently submitted drivers with
ioctls allowing us to support modern Vulkan features, like sparse memory
binding:

- Pretty standard GEM management ioctls (BO_CREATE and BO_MMAP_OFFSET),
with the 'exclusive-VM' bit to speed-up BO reservation on job submission
- VM management ioctls (VM_CREATE, VM_DESTROY and VM_BIND). The VM_BIND
ioctl is loosely based on the Xe model, and can handle both
  asynchronous and synchronous requests
- GPU execution context creation/destruction, tiler heap context creation
and job submission. Those ioctls reflect how the hardware/scheduler
works and are thus driver specific.

We also have a way to expose IO regions, such that the usermode driver
can directly access specific/well-isolate registers, like the
LATEST_FLUSH register used to implement cache-flush reduction.

This uAPI intentionally keeps usermode queues out of the scope, which
explains why doorbell registers and command stream ring-buffers are not

Daniele Ceraolo Spurio 484ecffac9 drm/xe/huc: Extract version and binary offset from new HuC headers
The GSC-enabled HuC binary starts with a GSC header, which is followed
by the legacy-style CSS header and the binary itself. We can parse the
GSC headers to find the HuC version and the location of the binary to
be used for the DMA transfer.

The parsing function has been designed to be re-used for the GSC binary,
so the entry names are external parameters (because the GSC uses
different ones) and the CSS entry is optional (because the GSC doesn't
have it).

v2: move new code to uc_fw.c, better comments and error checking, split
old code move to separate patch (Lucas), move headers and
    documentation to uc_fw_abi.h.

v3: use 2 separate loops, rework marker check (Lucas)
