Introduce the new BLKREPORTZONESV2 ioctl command to allow user
applications access to the fast zone report implemented by
blkdev_report_zones_cached(). This new ioctl is defined as number 142
and is documented in include/uapi/linux/fs.h.
Unlike the existing BLKREPORTZONES ioctl, this new ioctl uses the flags
field of struct blk_zone_report also as an input. If the user sets the
BLK_ZONE_REP_CACHED flag as an input, then blkdev_report_zones_cached()
is used to generate the zone report using cached zone information. If
this flag is not set, then BLKREPORTZONESV2 behaves in the same manner
as BLKREPORTZONES and the zone report is generated by accessing the
zoned device.

io_uring task work dispatch makes an indirect call to struct io_kiocb's
io_task_work.func field to allow running arbitrary task work functions.
In the uring_cmd case, this calls io_uring_cmd_work(), which immediately
makes another indirect call to struct io_uring_cmd's task_work_cb field.
Change the uring_cmd task work callbacks to functions whose signatures
match io_req_tw_func_t. Add a function io_uring_cmd_from_tw() to convert
from the task work's struct io_tw_req argument to struct io_uring_cmd *.
Define a constant IO_URING_CMD_TASK_WORK_ISSUE_FLAGS to avoid
manufacturing issue_flags in the uring_cmd task work callbacks. Now
uring_cmd task work dispatch makes a single indirect call to the
uring_cmd implementation's callback. This also allows removing the
task_work_cb field from struct io_uring_cmd, freeing up 8 bytes for
future storage.
Since fuse_uring_send_in_task() now has access to the io_tw_token_t,
check its cancel field directly instead of relying on the
IO_URING_F_TASK_DEAD issue flag.

A key feature for the new bitmap are that the IO fastpath is
lockless. If a user issues lots of write IO to the same bitmap
bit in a short time, only the first write has additional overhead

Commit 79525b51ac ("io_uring: fix nvme's 32b cqes on mixed cq") split
out a separate io_uring_cmd_done32() helper for ->uring_cmd()
implementations that return 32-byte CQEs. The res2 value passed to
io_uring_cmd_done() is now unused because __io_uring_cmd_done() ignores
it when is_cqe32 is passed as false. So drop the parameter from
io_uring_cmd_done() to simplify the callers and clarify that it's not
possible to return an extra value beyond the 32-bit CQE result.

Instances are happier that way and it makes more sense anyway -
the only part of the result that is related to partition we are given
is the start sector, and that has been filled in by the caller.
Everything else is a function of the disk. Only one instance
(DASD) is ever looking at anything other than bdev->bd_disk and
that one is trivial to adjust.

Anders and Naresh found that the addition of the FS_IOC_GETLBMD_CAP
handling in the blockdev ioctl handler breaks all ioctls with
_IOC_NR==2, as the new command is not added to the switch but only
a few of the command bits are check.
Move the check into the blk_get_meta_cap() function itself and make
it return -ENOIOCTLCMD for any unsupported command code, including
those with a smaller size that previously returned -EINVAL.
For consistency this also drops the check for NULL 'arg' that
is really useless, as any invalid pointer should return -EFAULT.

With the new large sector size support, it's now the case that
set_blocksize can change i_blksize and the folio order in a manner that
conflicts with a concurrent reader and causes a kernel crash.
Specifically, let's say that udev-worker calls libblkid to detect the
labels on a block device. The read call can create an order-0 folio to
read the first 4096 bytes from the disk. But then udev is preempted.
Next, someone tries to mount an 8k-sectorsize filesystem from the same
block device. The filesystem calls set_blksize, which sets i_blksize to
8192 and the minimum folio order to 1.
Now udev resumes, still holding the order-0 folio it allocated. It then
tries to schedule a read bio and do_mpage_readahead tries to create
bufferheads for the folio. Unfortunately, blocks_per_folio == 0 because
the page size is 4096 but the blocksize is 8192 so no bufferheads are
attached and the bh walk never sets bdev. We then submit the bio with a
NULL block device and crash.
Therefore, truncate the page cache after flushing but before updating
i_blksize. However, that's not enough -- we also need to lock out file
IO and page faults during the update. Take both the i_rwsem and the
invalidate_lock in exclusive mode for invalidations, and in shared mode
for read/write operations.
I don't know if this is the correct fix, but xfs/259 found it.

Until this point, the kernel can use hardware-wrapped keys to do
encryption if userspace provides one -- specifically a key in
ephemerally-wrapped form. However, no generic way has been provided for
userspace to get such a key in the first place.
Getting such a key is a two-step process. First, the key needs to be
imported from a raw key or generated by the hardware, producing a key in
long-term wrapped form. This happens once in the whole lifetime of the
key. Second, the long-term wrapped key needs to be converted into
ephemerally-wrapped form. This happens each time the key is "unlocked".
In Android, these operations are supported in a generic way through
KeyMint, a userspace abstraction layer. However, that method is
Android-specific and can't be used on other Linux systems, may rely on
proprietary libraries, and also misleads people into supporting KeyMint
features like rollback resistance that make sense for other KeyMint keys
but don't make sense for hardware-wrapped inline encryption keys.
Therefore, this patch provides a generic kernel interface for these
operations by introducing new block device ioctls:
- BLKCRYPTOIMPORTKEY: convert a raw key to long-term wrapped form.
- BLKCRYPTOGENERATEKEY: have the hardware generate a new key, then
return it in long-term wrapped form.
- BLKCRYPTOPREPAREKEY: convert a key from long-term wrapped form to
ephemerally-wrapped form.
These ioctls are implemented using new operations in blk_crypto_ll_ops.

io_uring allows implementing custom file specific asynchronous
operations via the fops->uring_cmd callback, a.k.a. IORING_OP_URING_CMD
requests or just io_uring commands. Use it to add support for async
discards.
Normally, it first tries to queue up bios in a non-blocking context,
and if that fails, we'd retry from a blocking context by returning
-EAGAIN to the core io_uring. We always get the result from bios
asynchronously by setting a custom bi_end_io callback, at which point
we drag the request into the task context to either reissue or complete
it and post a completion to the user.
Unlike ioctl(BLKDISCARD) with stronger guarantees against races, we only
do a best effort attempt to invalidate page cache, and it can race with
any writes and reads and leave page cache stale. It's the same kind of
races we allow to direct writes.
Also, apart from cases where discarding is not allowed at all, e.g.
discards are not supported or the file/device is read only, the user
should assume that the sector range on disk is not valid anymore, even

Zeroout can access a significant capacity and take longer than the user
expected. A user may change their mind about wanting to run that
command and attempt to kill the process and do something else with their
device. But since the task is uninterruptable, they have to wait for it
to finish, which could be many hours.
Add a new BLKDEV_ZERO_KILLABLE flag for blkdev_issue_zeroout that checks
for a fatal signal at each iteration so the user doesn't have to wait for
their regretted operation to complete naturally.

Most bio operations get basic sanity checking in submit_bio and anything
more complicated than that is done in the callers. Discards are a bit
different from that in that a lot of checking is done in
__blkdev_issue_discard, and the specific errnos for that are returned
to userspace. Move the checks that require specific errnos to the ioctl
handler instead, and just leave the basic sanity checking in submit_bio
for the other handlers. This introduces two changes in behavior:
1) the logical block size alignment check of the start and len is lost
for non-ioctl callers.
This matches what is done for other operations including reads and
writes. We should probably verify this for all bios, but for now
make discards match the normal flow.
2) for non-ioctl callers all errors are reported on I/O completion now
instead of synchronously. Callers in general mostly ignore or log
errors so this will actually simplify the code once cleaned up

Commit 4601b4b130 ("block: reopen the device in blkdev_reread_part")
lost the propagation of I/O errors from the low-level read of the
partition table to the user space caller of the BLKRRPART.
Apparently some user space relies on, so restore the propagation. This
isn't exactly pretty as other block device open calls explicitly do not
are about these errors, so add a new BLK_OPEN_STRICT_SCAN to opt into
the error propagation.

"Last cycle we changed opening of block devices, and opening a block
device would return a bdev_handle. This allowed us to implement
support for restricting and forbidding writes to mounted block
devices. It was accompanied by converting and adding helpers to
operate on bdev_handles instead of plain block devices.
That was already a good step forward but ultimately it isn't necessary
to have special purpose helpers for opening block devices internally
that return a bdev_handle.
Fundamentally, opening a block device internally should just be
equivalent to opening files. So now all internal opens of block
devices return files just as a userspace open would. Instead of
introducing a separate indirection into bdev_open_by_*() via struct
bdev_handle bdev_file_open_by_*() is made to just return a struct
file. Opening and closing a block device just becomes equivalent to
opening and closing a file.
This all works well because internally we already have a pseudo fs for
block devices and so opening block devices is simple. There's a few
places where we needed to be careful such as during boot when the
kernel is supposed to mount the rootfs directly without init doing it.
Here we need to take care to ensure that we flush out any asynchronous
file close. That's what we already do for opening, unpacking, and
closing the initramfs. So nothing new here.
The equivalence of opening and closing block devices to regular files
is a win in and of itself. But it also has various other advantages.
We can remove struct bdev_handle completely. Various low-level helpers
are now private to the block layer. Other helpers were simply
removable completely.
A follow-up series that is already reviewed build on this and makes it
possible to remove bdev->bd_inode and allows various clean ups of the
buffer head code as well. All places where we stashed a bdev_handle
now just stash a file and use simple accessors to get to the actual
block device which was already the case for bdev_handle"

Commit 6d4e80db4e ("block: add capacity validation in
bdev_add_partition()") add check of partition's start and end sectors to
prevent exceeding the size of the disk when adding partitions. However,
there is still no check for resizing partitions now.

Commit 1a721de848 ("block: don't add or resize partition on the disk
with GENHD_FL_NO_PART") prevented all operations about partitions on disks
with GENHD_FL_NO_PART in blkpg_do_ioctl() since they are meaningless.
However, it changed error code in some scenarios. So move checking
GENHD_FL_NO_PART to bdev_add_partition() to eliminate impact.

Before calling add partition or resize partition, there is no check
on whether the length is aligned with the logical block size.
If the logical block size of the disk is larger than 512 bytes,
then the partition size maybe not the multiple of the logical block size,
and when the last sector is read, bio_truncate() will adjust the bio size,
resulting in an IO error if the size of the read command is smaller than
the logical block size.If integrity data is supported, this will also
result in a null pointer dereference when calling bio_integrity_free.

The implementation of bdev holder operations such as fs_bdev_mark_dead()
and fs_bdev_sync() grab sb->s_umount semaphore under
bdev->bd_holder_lock. This is problematic because it leads to
disk->open_mutex -> sb->s_umount lock ordering which is counterintuitive
(usually we grab higher level (e.g. filesystem) locks first and lower
level (e.g. block layer) locks later) and indeed makes lockdep complain
about possible locking cycles whenever we open a block device while
holding sb->s_umount semaphore. Implement a function
bdev_super_lock_shared() which safely transitions from holding
bdev->bd_holder_lock to holding sb->s_umount on alive superblock without
introducing the problematic lock dependency. We use this function
fs_bdev_sync() and fs_bdev_mark_dead().

Commit a33df75c63 ("block: use an xarray for disk->part_tbl") remove
disk_expand_part_tbl() in add_partition(), which means all kinds of
devices will support extended dynamic `dev_t`.
However, some devices with GENHD_FL_NO_PART are not expected to add or
resize partition.
Fix this by adding check of GENHD_FL_NO_PART before add or resize
partition.

BLKFLSBUF is a historic ioctl that is called on a file handle to a
block device and syncs either the file system mounted on that block
device if there is one, or otherwise the just the data on the block
device.
Replace the get_super based syncing with a holder operation to remove
the last usage of get_super, and to also support syncing the file system
if the block device is not the main block device stored in s_dev.

The current interface for exclusive opens is rather confusing as it
requires both the FMODE_EXCL flag and a holder. Remove the need to pass
FMODE_EXCL and just key off the exclusive open off a non-NULL holder.
For blkdev_put this requires adding the holder argument, which provides
better debug checking that only the holder actually releases the hold,
but at the same time allows removing the now superfluous mode argument.

Add a new blk_holder_ops structure, which is passed to blkdev_get_by_* and
installed in the block_device for exclusive claims. It will be used to
allow the block layer to call back into the user of the block device for
thing like notification of a removed device or a device resize.

As explained in commit 36369f46e9 ("block: Do not reread partition table
on exclusively open device"), reread partition on the device that is
exclusively opened by someone else is problematic.
This patch will make sure partition scan will only be proceed if current
thread open the device exclusively, or the device is not opened
exclusively, and in the later case, other scanners and exclusive openers
will be blocked temporarily until partition scan is done.

This patch can't fix the problem in a corner case that device can be
opened exclusively after the checking and before blkdev_get_by_dev().
We'll use a new solution to fix the problem in the next patch, and
the new solution doesn't need to change apis.

Since commit 10c70d95c0 ("block: remove the bd_openers checks in
blk_drop_partitions") we allow rereading of partition table although
there are users of the block device. This has an undesirable consequence
that e.g. if sda and sdb are assembled to a RAID1 device md0 with
partitions, BLKRRPART ioctl on sda will rescan partition table and
create sda1 device. This partition device under a raid device confuses
some programs (such as libstorage-ng used for initial partitioning for
distribution installation) leading to failures.
Fix the problem refusing to rescan partitions if there is another user
that has the block device exclusively open.

Secure erase is a very different operation from discard in that it is
a data integrity operation vs hint. Fully split the limits and helper
infrastructure to make the separation more clear.
